simple noob question:

WTH is Inflation?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
When you get to a certain turn in the game inflation will start affecting you. It will take the amount of maintenance for units/cities/civics/etc. and then find a percent of that, (it will show you the percent) and add that amount to what you already pay.
What affect inflation?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The year. The later in the game, the higher the percentage
How do you minimize inflation?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!
You just have to keep the maintenance costs down.
(It is the reason why I have no military units. At all.)
It shouldn't be affecting you that much.

Inflation slowly increases throughout the game. You can't directly affect it except with one random event in BtS that reduces it somewhat.

Since you cannot minimise the inflation percentage, you instead have to reduce the value it applies to - the maintenance costs. Don't over expand, or build ludicrous quanities of units unless you intend to use them.

Inflation shouldn't be a major problem unless you have the beyond the Sword expansion, and have made serious errors in expanding corporations.

Thanks guys! Heres what happend:

while blaying BtS, my gold income pretty much offset the expenses, with room for military units. After I build an army of swords and pretty much defeated my opponent, I ran out of gold. I was at peace, and was not paying for my units. I lost them all within 10 turns, the only reason was inflation. And I didnt know what it was.

Thanks again!

technically in that context the lowercase g was correct usage. if your God needs a capital G that's fine, but when referring to a generic "god" among possible gods, the lower g is correct. god it? :)

MrCynical: Sweet Sushi guide!

(though I agree with you sig, you spelled God with a lowercase "g". Heratic!)

It was a quote. MrCynical didn't spell it lower case. The person he quoted did.

@ marc_v3
When you ran out of gold after having an army of swordsmen it was due to unit maintenance and probably city maintenance if you kept all of the cities of your opponent-not inflation. If you run out of money, units will go on strike and then be disbanded since you could not support them.

If it was due to city maintenance you should have razed some of your opponent cities and not paid the increased maintenance costs.

But I think he means it would have been sustainable if there was no inflation.

the previouse poster was correct. I am very obsesed with finding out how the commerce works, and I notice my income was sufficiant. And then I noticed something never seen in civilization before. Thats all.

btw all my men were gone and I was still negative. On Prince difficulty no less.
