Simulating Agricultural Revolution?

I added a new tech, Agricultural Revolution (replaces Sanitation), that has a Small Wonder called Crop Rotation. Crop Rotation replaces the effect of Longevity. In addition to Crop Rotation, I was thinking about having a new high food resource become available. Maybe even two food resources. One with a big boost for plains/grasslands/? and a second to give a boost to desert/tundra.

Anybody have any suggestions/ideas?

For plains and grasslands, a higher yielding wheat or corn resources, say around 8 to 12 food. You would need to separate desert and tundra into two different resources, as the climate is very different. For desert, you could add either camels or date palms, with food values of 4 to 6, along with the existing oasis which you could also boost the food values. For Tundra, you could add either a bird food resource or perhaps a wild berry resource to increase the food value.

The potato was widely introduced to the "old world" around the 17th-18th centuries and is a good crop for cold and temperate climates as well as high altitudes, so I think that would be an excellent choice to add at this stage as long as you're not too worried about the Incas losing out on their historical staple (or if you're using a real earth map you could perhaps have "Andean potatoes" as a starting resource just in that region).

I have added the potato as a mountain food resource in a lot of my mods.

I have long considered just adding a duplicate or two of wheat or other food staple that comes available with a mid game agriculture tech, as if proliferated by farming.
Yeah, that is what I am trying to work out. Like farming/refrigeration in Civ 2. Since there is no way to "double food yields", I figure I would introduce a new resource (like wheat) but with a higher yield to simulate the advances from the second agricultural revolution. But as you suggest, just adding another resource with +2 food, should do the trick. Maybe something as simple as "Improved Grain."

The mod RAR has this since decades in several levels. :dunno:

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I never played RAR. The tech tree looked too convoluted so I never gave it a go. I have looked it over some from a modding perspective, but not a deep enough dive.

You should give it a deeper check. RAR and its predecessor DYP are something like "the mother of all Civ 3 mods".

Another way to demonstrate increased agricultural yields is to give coastal cities increased food supplies by having coastal building such as the harbor, coastal fortress, commercial dock, and offshore platform increasing food in the water. This represents the increased imports of foods from elsewhere. You might also check out the Test of Time mod for Play the World to see increased food resources with the increase of technology.

Taking the case of the potato, I have that set to appear with Navigation. When the Tech is researched, the potato appears in mountain and hill tiles. As the potato has a high yield per acre, significantly higher than wheat, I give it a food resource value of 8.

Little out of scope. Do you know if I can buy Civ2 with installer like Civ3 on Gog.com, so I can run it on modern comps with no problems?
I can run Civ 2 ToT without any problems on my win10 pc, but the problem for you is, that Civ 2 ToT is not available at GOG or steam. So at present it is difficult to find a version of Civ 2 ToT. There is a petition to become it available at GOG.

I wish there was a Grain Elevator graphic. Essentially an industrial/modern granary. Thanks for the heads up on RARR @Civinator. They do have the improved wheat/grain that appears later. Just what I was thinking about. I also saw they had a fishery to boost coastal food. Perfect. I'll have to add that.
