Skin and Mod Question

Hello
I'm new to both Civ 4 and to modding and I have a few questions. I downloaded some skins for the Swordsman and the German Infantry and I'm not sure how to apply them to the game. Also I downloaded a new unit, and, once again I don't know how to insert it into the game.
I understand how to apply mods, but I want to load more then one at a time. Is there a way to permently apply mods to the game?
I think that's it, so any help is greatly appreciated.

put them in your customassets (my documents/my games/blabla). this way they will be aplied to all the games you start (without loading a mod over it that replaces those files)
