Yeah, there's a chest called evidence chest. Usually in the same room as your other stuff when you're in jail. However if you're in the thieves guild you can also bribe the guards, then you'll get away without a bounty or confiscated items for a quite small fee.

I was under the impression that if you broke out of jail and took your items back, ALL of them would be marked as stolen, which makes breaking out an awful idea unless you're some kind of naked monk wizard.

Even if that's true, there's always the fences where you can sell your items and get them back without them being marked as stolen, if you care that much.

Me? I prefer my books and my spells. just don't allow myself to get caught.

That costs money. I'd rather resist arrest or serve out my sentence. Breaking out of jail is pointless.

I bought a house; how do I put things on shelves or in chests? At this point everything is just dropped on the floor.

Lydia dies, can I get her back?

Nope, once she dies, she stays dead. Unless you are on a PC and have access to the console commands (But then getting achievements would be disabled IIRC).

I figured out the chests, but I have lots of crates that cannot be opened or moved and no bookshelves.

    Spoiler :

I only use Blue Mountain Flowers and Wheat. They:
    1) are really easy to find
    2) have a "Fortify Health" effect as well.

Go to the steward of the city and decorate your house. That'll add you lots of boxes and bookshelves.

achievements are not disabled when using console commands (although they probably should be).

And what if a player needs to use the console to correct a game-breaking bug?

Yeah. If he's not hanging out next to the Jarl's seat, he's probably sleeping in one of the side rooms. I particularly like the Steward for Windhelm, who sleeps on some hay on the floor of the kitchen

What kinds of skill sets/stuff will I need to enchant armor or weapons? Do dragon bones work in the enchanting realm or the smithing realm? What enchantments do I need to "learn" through disenchantment to be able to make my weapons do more damage?

Is there a place I can go to hire a companion?

I wish "climbing" was a skill I could learn so I could climb walls to sneak into places.

You could suggest it to a modder, but they'll just laugh in your face and say "Levitation is almost done."

What do you mean by "need"? To be able to enchant stuff you need filled soul gems, which can be filled by Soul Trapping people or creatures. If you do want the highest numbers, you'll need the right perks and equipment (such as Fortify Enchanting potions).

Smithing material. But Daedric Armor is better anyway. Only needs level 90 (not 100), takes less perks to get to, and provides more armor. Downside is it's only heavy armor. Dragonscale is the best light armor.

Smithing is for improving vanilla damage. Enchanting is for adding elemental or health/stamina/magicka damage.

Inns usually have mercenaries for 500 gold.

Probably didn't feature in their design plans. Horses do have that skill, except for vertical walls. :)

    Thanks.

I'll look into soul trapping. So the soul gems I have collected are empty?
Character level 90? Wow. I'm at 12. My character uses heavy armor now so I am on that track.

    Thanks.

I have been messing around at some redoubt in the west and need a companion to take some of the damage help out.

It will say in () if it is filled after the name in your inventory. Otherwise it will just say “petty soul gem” or something like that.

Smithing Skill 90. Much easier to get to ;)
