What is the deal with automated workers? Instead of waiting for orders when they need something to do, they just sleep in the closest city. In a game with a HUGE map and sh@tloads of cities, this justs really creates more work! I had to vent. Thanks.

Why are you talking about my slacking qualities about working. OHH wait you mean in the game. I don't use auto workers. So I don't have that problem. I like manually doing each worker.

I've started using automated workers to minimize my micromanagement (i.e. button clicking!). I noticed that sometimes it seems workers are just standing there doing nothing but the next turn they're off doing something or other. Until that is, every last tile around every last city is improved to the hilt. I had probably twenty workers automated on a medium sized continent, by the 1800's they'd finished improving everything on the land mass and went to wait in various cities for something to do. I started having pollution issues and everytime I had some pollution I'd hit "A" and they'd all rush to clean it up. The rest I ended up joining to a few slow growing cities.

"do or do not, there is no try."

Why couldn't they make the auto workers a little smarter? When I put a worker on auto he will travel all the way across my civ to build a mine on a square of irrigation when there are pleanty of empty squares
then he will travel all the way to the otherside to build irrigation on one of my mines
fkn idiots and I hate them

Was this during a war? I find my workers near the action will garrison themselves in the nearest city for safety. Shame they don't wake themselves up when peace is restored though.

Blahblahblah: Use "shift a" instead of "a" to automate your workers, that way they won't build over your preexisting city improvements.

My automated worker go back to work once the city parameter is clear of enemy troops. Work like a gem to me :D

I do prefer to use SHIFT-A vs. just A when I automate my workers.and it seems to work great when it actually WORKS! I have no enemy units even remotely close to me and when pollution pops up (in my opinion, the biggest pain in the ass of the game) they just stay sleeping in the city instead of cleaning it up. What the hell good is this??
