Bastard french keep roaming into my territory. I tell them to get out, they do as I say, only to come back the next turn. This goes on for something like 10 turns, when I get fed up. Their force is made out of two piles, one with cavalry, something like 40 units, the other with infantry of all kinds, 55 units.
I surround them with workers, stopping all further movement, then build forts all around them. The forts I garrison with Infantry, backed up by artillery. All in all, its 10 artillery units, and 20 infantry, spread out evenly in the forts.
As an offensive force, I build (rushing) 10 tanks.
Turn one; War is declared and I move the tanks into position to attack two of their cities. The artillery bombard the trapped stacks in my territory. The computer answers by attacking randomly with bombers, and the cavalry tries to break out. They finally break through. I loose the garrison of one fort, two units, and the AI looses 21 cavalry, the rest are hurt by my artillery. The infantry attacks with all offensive units, swordsmen, archers, and does nothing with the others, infantry, spearmen and musketeers.
Turn two; My tanks attack, capturing and razing two cities. Tjhree tanks are called back to attack the cavalry that is now on the loose. My artillery blast the cavallry and all y infantry, backed by the three tanks, attack from their forts. All cavalry is destroyed.
The AI does nothing offensive apart from a few bombraids on my cities and some shore bombardment.
Turn three: The tanks keep rolling, slaughtering another two cities, razing one and keeping the other.
Lesson i learned; If you can find the main army of the AI, lock it down by defensive units. Spare all offensive units for hitting his cities. Remember to keep moving, don't give the AI time to breathe. raze all cities you take, leave only the ones you need to use as "forts" to shelter your attacking army.
Rely heavily on artillery. They are great as defense, unvaluable for softening up targets before an attack and great for harrasing the enemy, by bombarding roads and railroads.
Strike at the heart of the enemy. The Ai never seems concerned about loosing smaller cities, but gets worried once you threaten his capital. Never go for peace until you have destroyed your enemy.
