Not sure how viable this is, but why not share it.
So i've been toying around with a slav computing slingshot in early domination victory at (emperor difficulty), and found it works, okish?

General idea
  • Launch a satellite for Computing
  • Raise intrigue
  • Recruit defectors for army
  • Steal some capitals
  • Take out a civ with your army
  • Win domination by stealing other capitals

This synergizes quite well with might + knowldge or might /industry.
If you are lucky, get a free satelite, if not bulid a repulsor.
Have some (3?) early units for securing traderoutes / taking out alien nests for science / dicking with outposts (Liberation army, so hard to get value from).
I started with a soldier, more chance for free satelite / capturing outpost.
Prioritice trading with culture stations.
Recruit defectors gave 3 units pr succesful operation.
I only produced 2 misslerovers after the inital marines to fend off aliens.
Expand once(or not at all, it's only to avoid the unit limit strangling your production)
Steal techs, not science, for free affinty, you dont really care which one you are.
Get command center for extra spy.
The +1 affinity point in might tier 2 can be used for crucial unit-affinity upgrades.
War and coup yourself to victory.

Very unsure how this will work in MP, but i tried this twice in SP and got 1 loss (i did some basic mistakes :p ) and 1 turn 135 dom win. (stole 2 caps)

After taking out just 1 civ i was double all other civs in points, so i guess it could be considred an opener, not a gamit.

Anyone else got experience on strategies similar to this they would like to share?

Turn 135 win on standard speed standard size map with 8 civs on apollo?

Seems like network spamming would be a key part of this. Is that bug only in MP? If not you could always network two cities then trade spies and do it again.

Edit: primary point being to get intrigue up high enough to recruit defectors/ coup.

It kinda feels a bit like cheating to just network spam^^
I did try the strat in MP, and intrigue generation was a bit too slow there.
So i guess to make it work, one would have to network spam :(

Also spying was kinda borked, as in you could only initially spy on the capitals of those who settled their cap after you settled yours. (Bug?)

I did get to recruit some defectors, and used those to take over 2 other civs.
Another slav ,with the same strat as mine, couped a capital i was trying to coup :p
The capital changing hands to made me unable to spy there any more... (another bug?)

In the end, i conceded as 2nd place because a brazilia had managed to get to aff lvl 10, while i was still at 6.

Also learned that even in MP missile rovers/artillery are able to take out a city really fast, so aggression early does have some merit. Just 3 of them, ofc with a sizeable escort took out 4-5 cities.

Ps! That free 1 pt of affinity in the might tree is a war winner :o

BTW, I kinda like the idea. It may give you an interesting OCC win option if you do well, cause you can easily get multiple spies and torment the AIs with them. You really might be on to something, cause I have really be itching to find a way for OCC to work in BE, and on Apollo, if possible.

Just tried the battlesuit slingshot, and that this spy start could very well work as a counter to that.
Make spies, steal battlesuit tech, profit. :p
