Hi,

I'm new to Civ IV and have been grinding through the condensed tips for beginners and one thing I notice is people assume you know all acronyms and abbreviations. If you use an abbreviation or acronym could you please also provide the full meaning? Thank you.

That's probably not gonna happen but please feel free to ask if you don't understand what the acronym means. we assume they are pretty much self apparent, but that may be due to our familiarity with the game, but we are more than happy to explain anything you don't understand.

There is a list of commonly used acronyms. You can always ask if it isn't on the list.

That list could really do with being updated some time, since despite being in the Civ 4 reference section, most of the acronyms are only relevant to Civ 3. There's also a lot of Civ 4 acronyms missing from that list.

NOW - Non-oscillating war <<< What's this

I know what the words mean just cant imagine the meaning within the Civ context

NOW is a variant where you are at war all the time, was played a lot in Civ3.
Compared to the AW (Always War) variant where you are at war with everyone you focus on a single enemy, kill him and go for the next one.
In Civ4, Oszillating War is more common.

WFYABTA = we fear you are becoming too advanced. This is the excuse the AI will give you if they do not wish to trade techs with you. (can be seen when hovering mouse over redded out techs in the trade screen)
