[R&F] Small things you have noticed on playing

Playing on Prince as the Mongols, I have met only 4 other AIs. (Sumeria, Aztecs, Georgia and England)

I am now in the medieval age and I have alliances with 3 of them and friendship with Georgia.

It’s one big happy love fest as there have been no wars between any of us. Even the City States in our area of the Pangea are still in existence. Lol.

So, it does seem possible to play peacefully. It’s Prince, mind you, but it is encouraging. :)

I did see signs of happiness among my fellow leaders, then suddenly the sea of green happy faces turned red :D I think they started getting angry as I became more influential with city states, a few of them had that agenda. It didn't help that I tried to get that emergency gold ;)

I think Prince - Emperor is a lot more enjoyable.

I like the negative loyalty hexes that show up when you have a settler selected.

still starting uncomfortably close to other civs and meeting far too many of them way too early, so i'm lowering the number of AI players before games

other than that i'm enjoying the loyalty mechanic

Been messing around with Shaka.
Too bad Square (double support bonues) promotion doesn't augment impi's +4 flank support.

Still...something to behold just after Military Tactics + Mercenaries:

I could see Impi + mounted units working really well to get full or partial surrounds for easy +12-20 flank support bonuses.

I'm also still running into civs way too early. In my first game I tried Scotland and had Monty's capital within 7 hexes of mine, and his capital was surrounded by rivers on both sides so a warrior rush wouldn't have worked because his eagle warriors would've caught me... instant reroll.

I play Scotland again, I get Sumeria to DoW me (from across the map mind you while he ignored his closer neighbor Kongo). I didn't have great land to expand in anyway so I just restarted again.

I play Scotland again, Australia's capital is again within 8 hexes of mine, but I settled my capital on Mt. Kilimanjaro so I've tried to deal with it. It's been 100 turns on Standard speed and he's just DoWed me for the third time (and all my neighbors hate me).

Is anyone else experiencing a much higher tendency for the AI to DoW the player, or am I just unlucky? I'm playing on Emperor, a little lower than I would normally play.

another problem exclusive to the R&F related to this is that the loyalty mechanic makes it nearly impossible to expand without your cities revolting since it requires you to basically expand into other players (or kill them)

You can apparently identify an unmet civ if they've sent out the diplomat governor to a city state and you hover your mouse over it (see right side of screen):

Unrelated, but is that a new symbol for Bandar Brunei I spy on the right there?

This is true to some degree. I’ve found no problem settling in somewhat rough spots while supporting cities with governors or a possible quick second city or golden age. Expanding into a cluster of enemy cities is not possible without razing 1 or 2. But it is possible with carefull planning to grab those spots. I dont think this is ideal do. Loyalty should ideally only hit when a peace agreement is reached.

Speaking of the Zulu, one thing in favor of Impi vs Knight is that the former benefits from Oligarchy plus Oligarchic Legacy.

So while the Knight has the advantage of more movement, the Impi has more combat strength with double Oligarchy (49 vs 48) at lower maintenance cost and no resource requirement.

Food for thought.

Yes, but that was the symbol they also used for Jakarta before it was replaced, so there was some speculation that they might get an updated symbol sometime. I just checked though and had forgotten that Antioch has replaced Amsterdam, so it could be for them too.
That was Jakarta's logo, and based on Jakarta's very own national monument (Monumen Nasional or Monas). I'm glad if they finally change the logo.

If they don't, mind tell us what city state is that?
Okay just for the record turns out I actually had Bandar Brunei in this game too, so yeah there you go:

But each city raises your hurdle to avoid dark age or enter gold age though, that’s why i feel very iffy of pumping settlers now...

I was playing on prince to try out new things and Hojo kept feeding me 3 unescorted settlers while I was attacking his only
Ah yes , thanks

Monument change

Aww , forward settling and unescorted settlers still around

And AI strupidity is still there, damaged Arabian unit of a smaller army leaves city to attack my leading troops

The settler discounts stack.
Colonization (+50% production to settlers) + Ancestral Hall (+50% production to settlers) is very powerful

My city only has 13.2 production but can pump out 200 production-cost settlers in 6 turns on standard speed.

So I have gone normal, golden, normal, I now have a string religious base but only 3 of m,y 15 cities converted. I have taken the religious dedication that will give me +2 per city conversion to push me golden again. It does not seem to hard as long as you start well.

Also of note
I just took Warsaw which has broken the polish loyalty to such an extent that Plock while just creating walls has also started showing the fist of doom for them... they are in a normal age. I am tempted not to take their new capital until this city converts but I do not know how long so unsure currently which way I will swing.

As I was turning religious I decided to take Moshka the religious governor whose first ability is doubling religious spread from a city. I realised just before I moved him to a polish city for helping loyalty that this would be a bit disloyal to my own religion.
