This is a tactic called Blitzkrieg. All u have to do is muster a large military no matter what the cost pick an enemy and strike first..But u must make sure u have enough forces to take on the enemys forces or they will crush your attack and push you back into a city were u most fend for your life...If your Blitzkrieg is effective you will crush the enemy and take all there things.:king:

There are probably better strategies that involve losing less units. But if you aim for speed, you would obviously need to amass a large invasive force. Sometimes, though, it is safer to wait a few turns to allow their attack forces to enter your territory. Then after defeating their offensive army, you invade and sweep them.

Or you could just use a RoP rape tactic.

Boy, has that happened before lol :D .

I have tried this very thing 4 times, not by intent, but just through the flow of the game. Eacj ofrce I mustered was larger than the previous one. The results were the same each time. The last time, I was playing C3C Middle Ages. I mustered a force of 5 (!) Armies full of elite troops. I also had 15 Knights, and 9 Crusaders. I was full of myself, and feeling my manhood! I headed for Jerusalem with 2 Relics. After many turns, I made my way through Byzantine territory, crossed the border into Abbasid lands, and my force was engulfed within 15 turns. I put my armies on a hill, to attempt to get them to defend long enough to heal. Alas, his assassins wiped out all my supporting cast, and his Ansar warriors did for my armies. I reaped a great slaughter of the foe. I destroyed over a hundred units, but it was worse than a pyrrhic victory. To add insult to injury, by the time it was over, most of my neighbors, including my allies, had declared war on me, and I went down to ignominious defeat.

This has happened every time I've marshalled a large army, because every time I've been at peace long enough to build such a force, the AI has been, too, I find that if I don't get and keep them fighting, eventually, they come at me with a larger force than I can possibly build. Fortunately, I'm a skilled defender, and I whittle them down, then eventually reverse the balance of forces. Usually....

better way: nuke them so many times all their troops are dead and THEN attack!
:nuke: x100 = :king: x1

I'll just have my immortals whip out the ol' ICBM's, is that it? :crazyeye:

Being super cereal for a second, waiting to gather armies is a garbage plan on levels above cheiftain. Constant war will keep you producing constant troops, and at the end of the war, all you can do is look at your troop count and think to yourself:

"Who else is next, huh? Who wants some?

You must kill them when they are still small, before they multiply.

If they encroach upon my land they get Whooped! Then in my citys and fortreses I wait for them to try and take me out.

mass-attack, been there done that too many times:D
how about a sneakier pre-emptiviestrike policy with a smaller army.Im an arab republic surrounded by democracies. How about a heavily offensive army :e.g: 80% Marines,Tanks,Bombers,Paratroops?the goal here is to strike a larger invader at the right time.kinda like how Israeli jets hit arab jets on the ground , a pre-emptive strike.
trick here is espionage & combined arms.
any thoughts?

Sort of a Fight->Obliterate->Make Peace tactic? :D makes sense if you can get advance tip-off of an incoming attack n pre-empt the strike ;)

To some degree, anyway; I've got a game with an isthmus separating two halves of a pangaea continent. There's a Jungle square on the other side of the isthmus, but in my territory, and the Romans keep trying to attack me; since the Jungle makes them stop, I'm able to bombard any units they attack with and kill them with 3-move units - I would attack them, but I don't want to go to war with that side until I've cleared out my continent-half; I decided to take that piece of land a while ago, and am now simply waiting for the MA I signed to end so I can kill off my neighbors.

The secret to the middle ages scenario is to put your relics into knights and load those knights into an army or armies. March overland, and no one will attack that healthy army. Or build a bunch of galleys and land on the hill next to Jerusalem with lots of armies and take the city for long enough to get your relics there.

How are 4/9/1 Paratroops an offensive unit? Also, your military should be 80% offensive troops in any game.

Paratroops are offensive when they capture an empty AI city but otherwise I would consider them defensive. 9 defense is not too bad in that era but 4 attack, give me a break. They could go on barb patrol assuming any are left.
