suck
big time

smoking doesn't have nearly as negative influence on society as some socially acceptable drugs like alcohol (and interestingly marihuana etc.)
health risk caused by smoking is grossly overestimated
smoking is cool and makes people happy
you die anyway

nonsmokers are a bunch of whining neofascist

Uh, it has plenty of negative influence, such as second hand smoking.

Not even remotely true. You're just lying to yourself because you want to smoke and you refuse to admit that you're killing yourself.

smoking is cool and makes people happy
So is autoerotic asphyxiation.

I fully support bans/restrictions on smoking. You want to drink yourself into a coma? More power to you. Second hand alcohol can't kill me (Unless I get hit by a drunk driver or something).

Especially enclosed public spaces.

I smoke though I should not. I always go outside to an open area when I light up, being polite to others. Never had an issue with anyone due to it.

Non-smoker, pro-freedom.

That's not how you voted. :mischief:

Seriously, smoking sucks. More than that, smokers suck. They are about the most rudely inconsiderate people you'll meet anywhere. It would be bad enough if they just smoked outside, but they want to poison others by smoking inside as well. And many of them throw the butts on the ground or out of car windows, which is just disgusting and rude.

I say $20/pack tax. 200% tax on all other forms of tobacco.

is that a trick question?
Rhetorical, actually.

Don't stereotype.

Non-smoker, and although I voted that I oppose smoking bans and regulations, I guess I should have voted that I do support some bans, and probably most regulations. Depends on the type of ban/regulation, and what you call a "regulation". Yes, I fully support selling tobacco cigarettes and products to adults (as I would also support legal marijuana and alcohol for adults), but I don't support people smoking in restaurants and other businesses/public areas (particularly enclosed areas).

This is a serious question: is there a limit to how much alcohol can be served to people in non-bars? The most frequent area where I see "no-smoking" bans are in restaurants, yet I don't recall ever seeing any drunk people either. Are many restaurants limited to how much alcohol they can serve per person, or does the business decide, or do people just seem to accept that it isn't good to get drunk at a non-bar restaurant?

Probably should have voted yes, then. :p I don't think the OP meant "total bans on smoking"

I think we are at the right balance in most places here in California, although we are bordering on going overboard.

No smoking inside a public business/public place or within 15 (or 30? I forget) feet of an entrance is about right I think, or designated sealed smoking areas for smokers.

I was a smoker once so I can feel their pain... but I can't stand second hand smoke now.

My state has issued a law banning smoking in all public places. I think that this law is somewhat ridiculous. I agree with banning smoking from public places such as schools and government buildings, but I feel that it is wrong for the state to force restaurants/bars to ban smoking.

Most of these establishments already have sections set for smoking and non smoking. In most cases these places have separate rooms so that smokers do not disturb nonsmokers. I think that there will be a large number of private establishments in order to provide smokers with a fun and friendly environment while we enjoy our tobacco products.

IMO smoking is acceptable in strict moderation, Caffeine or fast food can be just as, if not more deadly then tobacco. In fact all of these things greatly effect the heart and vascular system.

Caffine is not even close to as harmful as tobacco, and fast food isn't psychologically addictive like nicotine is. You cannot smoke in moderation. I see you're a smoker, which is why it makes sense that you lie to yourself because you have to justify the dichotomy of wanting to be healthy and wanting to consume highly unhealthy things, but it's just not true.
