I’ve been tuning in more since the expansion announcement and thrilled of course. Hello everyone!

But I then I saw the sneak peak today and saw the Inca as a possibility, so I’m finally breaking my silence and giving my two cents:

Whoever it is I’m happy we’re not sure. It’s thrilling having to wait and see for a change :D

It's part of Machu Picchu. It's not a waterfall, it's pavement along the edge of the hill.

Yeah I think you could be right... it's not a perfect fit, but I feel there are two that are very close to it, this one and Milford sounds's peak, Mitre...

Since I already changed My Eleanor vote for Maori, I ain't going to change it again, but could be both... it's fun, we're just not 100% sure... I like it ;-)

It seems to me that the peak in the Sneak Peak is too green to be Mitre Peak. Although that did cross my mind when I was first looking into it.

My vote in the poll was for Maori (and I'm not changing that), but my prediction based on this Sneak Peak is Inca.

It could be Inca but not in Machu Picchu. After all Machu Picchu was lost to modern mankinds for centuries. No civilization should see the Inca king standing in front of that secret town eventhough it's very famous now.

Try chocequirao, urubamba, Ollantaytambo and more obscure mountains. I'll be hiking Salkantay to Machu Picchu anyway early next month, I'll go check the similarity lol

Still Think it is Maori, but like only 60% sure, which is better than last week when we got it in under 5 minutes

Yeah, I'd have to guess Māori too. There's no one reason that clinches it for me, but the lack of any buildings or farms suggests Kupe, since his claim to fame was finding an undiscovered land and calling it "Aotearoa" (modern day New Zealand). And it looks like New Zealand too ... well, as much as it looks like anywhere else. Plus I'm Māori so I'm biased. Really, really biased. And excited.

Taihoa tātou ka mōhio. Soon we will all know.

The Incas always knew about it. The Inca leader is supposedly Pachacuti in Civ VI, and he is the emperor who is believed to have built and used it. In an alternate history where other civs have routine contact with the Inca - and indeed the ability to build Machu Picchu themselves (as it will presumably be a Wonder as usual rather than an Inca unique), it would be common knowledge. Pachacuti was in front of Machu Picchu in his Civ V leader screen, he presumably will be here as well.

Having said all that, if we go with the Maori theory could it be Paratutae Rock? I looked up Kupe and Mitre Peak in case they had any relation to one another. I couldn't find any obvious reason to use Mitre Peak or Milford Sound as the backdrop to a mythological Maori leader, but the Wikipedia entry for Kupe mentions a traditional association with Paratutae Rock.

Third possibility: White Cliffs of Dover as a possible backdrop for Eleanor (why? Who knows).

Looks to me like it is Babylon, or the Mayans. Or maybe Portugal.

I don't know why, but when I first saw the picture I thought Victoria Falls. Maybe it's an African civ.

Good eye! Extremely sacred spot and would be appropriate for Kupe and the civ in general, as the Northlands have always been densely populated. It could also be the Bay of Islands, or honestly just about anywhere in the country. With that perfect green and dramatic peak I would be very surprised if it wasn't Aotearoa.
