That's no waterfall, nowhere for the water to come from, I see cliffs. Googling shows that this can remotely remind of mountains in Polynesian islands (e. g. Bora Bora, Tahiti).

It could but I don't see Laurier or Kristina standing behind a mountain range if this is supposed to represent the background of the leader. I'm leaning towards the Inca with them deliberately leaving out Machu Picchu for now way in the background of the mountain range.

Looks more Maori than Inca to me. For instance, here's Paratutae, which (Wikipedia tells me) is relevant to the Kupe legend:

The hill looks an awful lot like mt Cooper where I grew up (Titahi Bay) but that grey / waterfall stuff is just odd. Look carefully at the hill and you see trees that could be from anywhere but its a hill rather than a mountain.
I googled "sheer Hill", what a mistake

The rock looks similar but the teaser the bottom looks like a river, where as that is the ocean at the bottom in that picture.

    I'm quite pleased we can't agree. :)

My question to people that know more about Maori: the leader backgrounds usually show something iconic that is strongly related to the civ; are all these pictures of fjords and NZ mountains what you would choose as the background for the Maori?

I think it is Te Mata Peak in New Zealand.

Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brazil is a wide waterfall but no mountain background...

    This is getting difficult.

From the look of things I think it is a white cliff not a waterfall, and I get a NZ coastline vibe from it

I'm thinking Maori, looks like a grassy island paradise to me. I think we'd see terrace farms in the background if it was Inca.

I don't think it's a waterfall, I think it is a cliff. It looks a bit like a really fuzzy shot of the Andes near Macchu Picchu, so I'm gonna say Inca.

I'm starting to think that they deliberately made this harder to guess than the sneak-peaks they gave us last year. Less info means less material for us to search the Internet for stuff.

I am thinking Inca. Remember that the Hungary image has an unidentified (and to be honest out of place) lake/ocean in the background that isn't in any of the real pictures of that castle. The key recognizable feature was a close up of one of the towers.

I am thinking this might be an artistic representation of the mountain top that is located on the left hand side of this picture of Machu Pichu - as opposed to the larger peak on the right.

    Spoiler :

But it's just a little tiny piece of the picture, so . . .

That would be too obvious, these are supposed to be challenging. They usually aren't for CivFanatics but that's besides the point...

I had that thought as well. But it might just be wishful thinking, since the Maori is the civ I'm least looking forward to...
