If only this mountain in the foreground would be the other way round...

    Spoiler :

It could easily be, but none of the leaked nations. Could easily be near Mount Olympus in Greece, or other places in South Eastern Europe. Norway and Scotland could be possible since I cannot clearly discern the vegetation. And the Portuguese Isles (if you count them to Europe, which you shouldn't) would certainly a possibility. Yet, context clearly points to it not being in Europe.

They'll get their 24 hrs of amusement. :p

We'll start repeating ourselves soon anyway, to the extent we haven't already...

I definitely can't blame you. The Maori have been one of my more anticipated new civs but it would be pretty unrealistic and unreasonable of me to think that everyone will share that view. Plus, like you said, who wouldn't be more excited for Mali, Inca, Ottomans, etc !? I'm pretty excited for most of these civs, some of the leaders maybe not so much.

Seems like it's almost certainly either Maori or Inca. I guess there could be a mountain like that in Phoenicia, Sweden, etc. but I'd be puzzled about choosing a mountain for their leader backgrounds.

If it's the Maori tomorrow, I guess a lot of us will pay attention to which part of the globe is faced during the live stream Thursday (if we get one) to get the hint for the next reveal.

    Yes to Mali either way.
Yes to Inca and the Ottomans as long as their leaders aren't Athahualpa and Roxelana.

I agree. Pachacuti and Suleiman are a little boring due to repetition, but they are truly excellent representatives of their respective civs.

I can definitely live with them even though I would like Huayna Capac this time for the Inca. It's harder to say I wouldn't like some named Suleiman the Magnificent again anyways to lead the Ottomans.

I'm glad we can give @FXS_Sarah and the rest something nice on a Monday morning. This one truly has us stumped!

I saw this on Facebook and immediately jumped to Civfnatics to see the experts reveal the answers as if it's banana-peeling-level of easy.
Turns out there is no consensus yet.
My disappointment is now immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Specifically one that matched the architecture at Poitiers, which is what made many of us pretty sure that it was Elanore before the leaked list came out.

I don't think I could ever describe Suleiman's turban as boring, hopefully we can see it in-game in all its magnificence! I'd have preferred Huayna Capac and Mehmed II but the Earthshaker and the Magnificent are worthy choices as always. Let's see part of Suleiman's and Pachacuti's legacies and personalities we'll see in-game.

If laugh it's it Piopiotahi, as a redditor suggested, given that it's already in the game.

That said, I haven't seen an angle with much of a match.

Could the curves be due to some sort of cloud reflection in water?

That would be a very odd choice of background for Canada.

Agreed though I suppose it depends on if Firaxis thinks people associate Canada more with its wilderness.

To me it looks like a headland:

Forillon, Quebec, the first part of the province that any early French explorer would have seen... :shifty:

I've yet to find anything in New Zealand that looks like it. But if we're going with Kupe, then surely it would be something like Cape Reinga? But it doesn't quite fit...
