I've just read something very interesting from my psychology book. Disney's Snow White portrays a girl with electra complex (that's the female version of the oedipus complex). The wicked stepmother is wicked because she gets what Snow White wants, the father. And through the concept of "projection." "I hate her" becomes "she hates me." that why Snow White sees the stepmother as hating her. She was given an apple which caused her to sleep for seven years, generally the length of time when a child's erotic urges remain suppressed. Then she is awakened by a prince who awakens her sexuality.

Do you think it's a reasonable analogy or do you think it's BS because everything can be analyzed in a sexual way.

If you want to see subliminal messages in Disney cartoons, read "How To Read Donald Duck". One of my friends brought that into school. Damn...who thought Disney would put pro-capitalist propaganda in cartoons in Argentina in the 70s?

:crazyeye:

Most of the stories covered by Disney (as with most fairy tales etc) are very very old and in their earlier forms were much more "adult" than they are now.

But having said that- yes of course you can interpret any story any way you like.

Read Bruno Bettleheim's 'The uses of Enchanment" for a Freudian/Jungian analysis of the traditional form of Grimm's and some others fairy tales. You will get more out that book on this subject than you would in twenty years on these forums.

Little Red Riding Hood. That is one sick fairytale if you ask me.
I don't rally know what the meaning is of it except to scare children, but apparently the idea of the pubescent innocent young girl meeting the hungry wolf is meant to actually mean something.
And why does the wolf take his time to dress up as her grandmother? Why not simply eat her when he meets her on the road? Weird.

Snow White Blood Red by Neil Gaiman puts a great twist on the Snow White story. :goodjob:
