So is there a decent, working patch?

Just bought the game, kind of surprised to see there's no official patch as yet, tried patchmod, it doesn't work - just crashes the game as you're about to make your first move.

Is there anything else, at all?

Sorry, it looks like my game crashes with or without the patch. This is incredibly frustrating - so much for my Xmas present to myself!

Be sure you install the patchmod as a *mod* and not in the root directory of the game. Others have had no problem with crashes. I suspect your problem is the way you installed it.

yeah that sounds what it is

uninstall the program and restart
reinstall colonization
unpack the patchmod into your Documents/Colonization/Mods folder

load it after loading the main game (through the advanced section on the main menu). any probs come back to us!

It's installed correctly exactly as you described. The third time I tried it started, but all the people are invisible. Odd, cause Civ4 plays perfectly fine, no troubles.

Kinda peeved off that it has higher system requirements than Civ4 if that is the case.

Sounds more like a video card driver or active X problem, but I'm no expert.

Many people are running the game with no such problems, I would also recommend uninstalling everything, then reinstalling from the original CD.

Make sure your graphics card can support shader 1.2 which is higher than Civ4's shader version.

There's nothing wrong with Col requiring a higher shader version.
