This is about people who dont do anything when they slap the bumpersticker on there car.

Is it just a good thought? I see it as a rather pointless and empty statement if you dont actively do something to support the cause rather then say "I support the troops".

And trust me these people exist.

Ironically, a lot of that money just goes back to China.

It's not the people putting it on their cars that really bugs me, its the businesses that are making a killing selling this stuff and not giving back a dime to soldiers or their families.

They don't? That's utter bull right there, yo! At least a portion of that should go to soldiers. The rest should go to making more of them.

Do you know for a fact that this is indeed the case?

Well I have found at least two companies who sell ribbons and such that are lucrative companies.
Patriotic promotions
and
westsky promotions

Both are lucrative companies and there is no mention anywhere on there site that part of the money is given to any foundation or fund.

On the other hand , the yellow ribbon foundation (an english company) is a non-profit company and 100% of there NET income goes to Armed Forces welfare projects.

Same goes for the red fridays foundation in Canada

There is also a USA version of the yellow ribbons foundation (non profit, 100% profit redistributed)

So the moral is if you want to contribute, watch where you get your stickers and ribbons cuz where there is money to be made you can be sure that some unworthy companies will try to get there share of the pie.

As solid proof that the money is in fact given back to soldiers and there family through various funds, here is the Avon products foundation (which sells different ribbons and does fundraising events) financial statements.

If you know anything about accounting, they were audited and you can see that the only money that went out of the company was to pay the operating charges and the donations to various funds. (like the yellow ribbons fund).

I think the case is closed.

d. Yellow Ribbon Fund
In response to the military action in Iraq, the Foundation established the
Yellow Ribbon Fund in 2003. A new pin called “The Yellow Ribbon Pin”
was created and sold through Avon. Avon made a contribution of $2.9
million in 2003 from the profits to the Yellow Ribbon Fund to provide direct
financial assistance and emotional support to the families whose loved ones
are far from home or to the families who have lost loved ones in the line of
duty. Funds may also be directed to various institutions and programs that
provide counseling and education to these families.

as much as i hate the hollow gesture I think I dislike how military personnel have achieved some sacred status just as much.

Plenty of businesses sell these for profit and nothing else. As Rhymes said above, be careful where you buy these. All it takes is about 30 seconds of research to make sure your money is well spent.

Support the troops! Send politicians to the front line!

Well it's better then how the "troops" were treated when coming back from Vietnam.

I agree, it's annoying as hell.

As a veteran I too am annoyed by this but it better than being spit on and called a baby killer.

I love it. When I am running a quick errand on the way home while in uniform I actually get people who walk up to me and thank me for my service and shake my hand. I think thats great.

I totally agree.

Or don't buy them at all and find actually meaningful ways of "supporting the troops".
