What would you do if you found a wallet on the ground? personally, id take all the money, and not feel bad about it. Its the kind of thing you wouldnt want done to you, but its worth it.

If it only had say, ten bucks in it, then it probably isn't worth the trouble of trying to return it. If it had credit cards, ID, and/or a substantial amount of money, I would turn it in to police or something. I just have too much of a conscience to take everything out.

Is this a poll?

I would leave it. If I didn't see the person drop it, then they will come back and get it. If I did see them I would run up and give it to them.

Lets assume the person is long gone. This is a moral question, not a "are you a risk taker" question. Lets assume your walking in the forest, if some one came you heard them, and you see that wallet.

I take te wallet, deplete the bank card, max out the credit cards, redeem the gift certificates, sell the wallet, sell the personel information to identity thieves, and poke holes in the foreheads of loved ones' pictures and mail them back to the owners.

Fine then, I would walk on by, because I don't believe in touching the valuables of others. If they want it then they can retrace their steps.

What? I expected better of you Perfection. ONLY dipping it in blood? I thought that you would start a war involoving the person, THEN send it back.

If there is a driver's license or ID or credit cards in it, I give it back with all the money. If there is no ID I let the cops worry about it. No wallet can hold enough money to compensate for how I would feel about stealing.* I am not trying to sound better than anyone, but I doubt I could keep the money.

*Which is not motivated entirely by fear of God, in case anyone was wondering.

Well, it depends. If I'm walking in Chicago, and find a wallet, should I find the nearest officer and say, "Well, hello, officer. I found this wallet on the ground. What should I do with it?" he would probably respond, "Gimme that. We need it... for... um... driver's licenses... or something...." Then I would probably take it. But, on the other hand, if I see one somewhere where I'm sure its going to be found, like a grocery store or something else like that, or if I can directly give it back to someone, I would.

About a year and a half ago I found the contents of someone's wallet. It was strewn across an entire block. There was no cash, but there were some useful giftcards. I went around picking up the contents, and found a checkbook, which had an address. I then went to this address and returned it to the person, who in turn gave me an excess of $40 (I declined it out of politeness, but since I really wanted to keep the money I let her "win" in insisting me to keep it ;) ). Of course, if I hadn't found her I would have kept it, spent the giftcards and cash if any was in it, but not touched the credit cards, ID, etc.

I'd definently take the cash.

Uhh... I don't have much use for money at present, and I try to be nice; I'd try to return it, if it was not possible, I'd leave it.

I found wallets before and turned them in at the local police station.
They called the owner and returned it to her,

I must mention while I was working I spotted a purse sitting in an empty cart where we keep all of the carts as customers walk in. I turned that in. It took every ounce of strength in me to not try and hide it for when I left.

With ID: Turn it in to it's rightful owner with nothing missing.

Without ID: It's mine.

I'd eat it. Those things are damn good eating you know. You just need to let them soak for a while to make them soft enough to chew.
