So you guys aren't nerds!!!

One has never been called a nerd. Vicious right wing skinhead, certainly. Sadistic fascist genius, sure. Dark hearted bastard, all the time. Never nerd, though. Haven't played Civ3 ever, don't listen to bunny rabbit music.

being smart doesn't make you a nerd. here is what my definition of nerd is. they must fit all criteria:

1) They must have a 3.5 or better GPA.
2) They must think they are better than everybody else.
3) They must not play any sports(Cross Country DOES count as a sport)
4) They must have a nasal voice.
5) They must wear really thick glasses.
hey cross country is a sport!

Nerd is a term highly misunderstood. People seem to think that nerds are antisocial, ugly, and generally live on computers, only think about similar electronics, and only have friends that share the exact same interests.

BAH!

I am a nerd.
I have several friends, even a girlfriend (who knows I am a nerd).
Most of my friends are, if anything, barely computer literate. But, I don't hold it at all against them, they jsut aren't interested in it as I am.
I am not scared to talk with women in person.
I actually prefer talking with my girlfriend either in person or on the phone than through IM programs, and in fact I find such programs to be incredibly boring and impersonal (referring to anyone I talk with).
Though I wouldn't call myself handsome or dreamy, I must, without any use of pride, say that I look fairly good...well, I need a haircut...and anyways, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and ugliness and better used as a description of personality.
I don't wear glasses, though if the right style is worn glasses can look quite good on most people.
And though I am thin, I am not unhealthily so. I just have a high metabolism.
And I don't always think about computers, nor sex (as is also a common nerd stereotype). In fact, I probably think about sex less than most men, but it just isn't a big thing in my life (actually, it won't be anything in my life until I get married).

I am a nerd. I use and know computers more extensively than most. That's all.

As an added note, I define nerd as merely a state of mind and slight prioritizing of interests in favour of computers. The definition given above me (with nasal voice, thick glasses, etc), I would define as an extreme, stereotypical nerd. Nerdism is really more of a gradient than a set definition.

That's exactly how I am. The less people know about you the less crap you get into. I can't deal with petty drama that other teens seem to have every freakin day. And yes, I think I am better than everyone else around me. That's why I always feel good about myself. :king:

I dun fit any of these...

I have no idea what the 1st one means...I never actualy thought if I'm better or worse than anybody...I play basketball and I'm a good swimmer...nuthin wrong with mah voice and I have eagle eye vision...so guess I'm not a nerd...

nerd?

that's a word used by stupid or average intellect level people to describe smart people who are into or achieving things that average or stupid people can't comprehend.

I think "geek" is a suitable word to describe me. Not "nerd".

lets see:

Star Wars? yep.
Star Trek? yep.
can build a computer? check.
makes electronic music? yep
likes Civ? yep
loves war games in general? yep
likes to wax intellectual over coffee and bong hits? you bet.
fancies himself some sort of music critic? yep
fancies himself some sort of movie critic? oh yeah.
contrarily corrects anyone who presents inaccurate information? with a fervor.

and i roll around in all this with glee, like a pig in a manure pile.

That said, what is a nerd? Those categories are useless as nothing else. So I study math, I am kind of intelligent, like science fiction and have a bad eyesight. Would qualify as nerdy most likely. But on the other hand I do drink like sh*t, live football as a religion, wear contacts and hate fantasy.
So what's the point...

I'm not a nerd at all. I am intelligent, and I enjoy Civ, but I do so many more things. I don't look like a nerd in the slightest, I barely have acne and I only wear glasses on the computer otherwise I get terrible eye strain. Plus, I know nothing about Star Trek.

Does this look like the face of a nerd to you? ;)

Why yes it does.....

On myself, far from it. How many nerds went on the football team and were crazy enough to try for the Marines with a back injury? Or try for West Point for that matter...

Some people just call me crazy. A few have predicted I would end up as a guerilla fighter. A few have called me a knight.

And some people just like me because of my style and comfortable enough not to be politically correct. ::thinking back to walking down the hallways in high school with my fist in the air going "Black Power!"....amazing when some of the teachers did the same thing when I showed up:: Talk about unity! It was all in good fun and everyone knew it. I wouldn't do that with a bunch of strangers.

I don't think I'm much of a nerd. I can be shy, but that's as anti-social as I go. Sci-fis bore me, computers tend to bore me (except for talking online and computer games), and I like rap and rock both. I like history. You could call me a history geek, though I don't look at it that much. I'm much smarter than most of my peers but never the smartest.

If you're anti-social (like me) computing is a fitting hobby. But "anti-social" people are a much larger group than just the stereotypical nerds/geeks. I'm a punk. I don't read many books at all.
Some guy who shares my interest in all kinds of geeky computer stuff also loves hot chicks (and gets them!), sports and money. But he is just as anti-social as I am. Just in a different way. He doesn't care about people and would probably sell all his pals/girlfriends as slaves if he could get away with it. Because he prefers money over people. The evil capitalist monster right out of your leftist nightmares basically.
I also used to hang out with a guy who was in a street gang, a muscle-bound well-armed thug but if he wasn't busy pushing drugs or lifting weights we watched Star Trek together. Oh, and he really liked computers, too. Forget your stereotypes.

If I tell a girl I play civ and try to explain it to them they kinda look at me funny but I think they find it cute.

Nope I dont fit any of these either, though I'm considered one of the biggest nerds at my school! Well, maybe number 2...

Just maybe, Perfection?
