So you want to see gameplay, huh?

I would also like to see theminimap of the unclowded land.. france might as well have 3 times the cities than japan...

dumb question about the video. What are pylons? I think I heard them mention it in a video and on the forums here.

Seriously? How old are you? Heck, what planet are you from?

never played starcraft.

TBS>RTS

I never even wanted to attempt another RTS after playing the abomination that was Star Wars Rebellion. I realized that genre wasn't for me.

At this point in history "You must construct additional Pylons" is an internet meme. Even if you never played Starcraft you should've heard about it somewhere.

now I'm really embarrassed. I lost any geek cred. I may have once had. I have never heard that before seeing it a coupled days ago on the video and written in the forums.

I looked it up on know your meme (from a google search), they reference a bunch of youtube videos I have never seen- so that explains why I haven't seen it.

I've seen various memes here and at Apolyton, but I don't recall this particular one.

I didn't understand the plyon reference, I thought maybe it was something from civ 1 or 2, now you mention it though, Starcraft, yeah that explains it.

I didn't even notice the pylons reference or understand it afterward...but I did play Starcraft. :p

"Where the hell's the any key?"

I didn't understand the pylons reference either, thought it had to do with AC which I have never played.

Gotta love Know your Meme (that girl is hot!). Taught me all about Boxxy and Creepy Chan. Hey, what can I say, life is hard for those of us who don't hang around on 4-chan!

You can do what I do, hang around Enciclopedia Dramatica instead. You get the same info, minus the traumatic experience.

LOL yup, coz there's NOTHING traumatic about Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Anyway. yeah, i'm really curious as to just how much land napoleon had

However discussing the pylon made me play starcraft2 for several hours today on mutliplayer and owning as protoss and occasionally hearing "you need more pylons", nice way to waste time before Civ V comes out.

Back on topic.

During the play video, they mentioned that whoever constructs the road pays for it regardless the fact it resides outside the cultural (national) borders. So, what happens if you build a nation, overextend yourself by a bit and lose a few cities to your neighbor? Do you then pay for the roads in his new territory too? Does it also mean they'll pay for the roads in cities you conquer? If so, what happens when they lose the capital?

My understanding is that you pay for maintenance of roads you build in neutral territory, but if that territory is taken over by another power, then the new controlling civ assumes maintenance costs.

How about this for back on topic - Starcraft 2 and Civ 5 were designed with similar design philosophies - Produce a third of the game now and require on line log in and down loadable content to access the rest. Then tie all the aftermarket products into a social networking system that effectively chains the purchaser to that distributor. The publisher, 2k, can then make money hand over fist nickle and diming us. Eventually they might decide that money can be used for more than swimming in and smoking and pay real professionals, not grunge kiddies, to advertise in the community. Civ 6 might have a professionally produced, actually scripted and prepared ustream advertisement video.

I don't think Civ5 will be "a third of the game", there will be some DLCs (I prefer normal expansion packs, but DLCs are "in fashion" lately in the gaming industry as an additional source of income to the publisher), but I don't think they will contain crucial parts of the game.
