I need to find a free sound recorder that won't give me viruses and can record from line-in, (aka my microphone.) Any sugestions?

At first I read that as asking for help trying to find a microphone that won't give you viruses. Sorry.

You should have better luck in the Computer Tech forum with this kind of questions - http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73 that's the place for such questions, and people there know their stuff.

I'd recommend Audacity, which I linked to in my previous post. It's free, open-source (just a fancy term meaning you can do anything you want with it), malware-free, and pretty decent.
