Some really lucky people!

What? Now people is discovering that videogames are actually art and works of high cultural value? Well, welcome to the 21st century.

Robert Ebert begs to differ...

Its still hard too belive that shooting peple in the face while laugthing is art.....

Well, most paintings are violent or show naked girls and they're still considered an art.

To be honest, I can't think of single video game that I would mandate for a general education requirement. Not even Portal.

Seconded. Portal is a riddle game which plays with our sense of orientation and entertains with sadistic humor.
A very fun concept, but actual educational (beyond the sense of orientation and the insight that the cake obviously is a lie)? Even philosophical on a fairly profound level? Right...

But that PC games are art I find actually not even worth to be mentioned. If not talking to people who don't like PC games for the sake of not liking something unknown which is rumored to be bad anyway.

I would call video games an art and if they want students to learn or be more motivated to learn you have to make it fun. I personally think they should do this is almost all colleges, even some highschools.

Shadow of the Colossus perhaps?

Civilization, taught me a good amount about history.

EB for a Roman history class, seriously, it was a great supplement when I took a roman history class in college.

It's not really a general education requirement. It's just an example "piece of literature" that was assigned to a large group of students. Not that different from being assigned a moderately popular contemporary writer.

1. I WANT TO TAKE THIS CLASS THE PROFESSOR IS AWESOME.

2. I am of the opinion that video games can be considered works of art. I have played many that have stimulating storylines or awesome graphics or fun gameplay. Those three things are among a myriad of characteristics that I consider artful.

Civilization, taught me a good amount about history.

It taught me tanks were discovered in the 19th century. ;)

It actually didn't teach me anything about history, but it did cause me to become more interested in it. I had no idea what significance the Babylonians had before civ games (I vaguely remember being taught about them at 14 in World history class).

This is 2010 get with the program.

 yeah this isn't the 90's. I can't believe anyone even admit to that.
