1. Does the map generator operate the same way? In both of my two games where I got going, the resources/luxuries were strange. And I started in an area with no fresh water either time.
In the first game, I controlled a very large area, but the only way I could get a luxury was to take some Greek cities.
In the second game, I controlled a pretty large area when I discovered steam power, and especially, I controlled a large area of (mostly former) jungle. But no coal.
Since I had lousy maps each of my 2 games, it seemed strange.
2. I'm not much of a war mongerer. I like to get swordsmen early and cripple a neighbor. But then I ease up and develop my cities. I wonder if this is a mistake at emperor, since each game, I got quite far behind in techs. (3-4). At emperor, should you more or less ALWAYS be on the lookout for cities to take? I don't like what that does to my reputation.
3. The price of techs seemed to have really gone up aLOT. At monarchy, the trades I could make were a bit unbalanced, but reasonable. Like, I'd have to throw in a luxury in order to trade equivalent techs. Or I'd have to give a good tech for an average tech.
Am I right about this? Is there a way around it?
4. Is corruption the same as at monarchy? In my second game, my empire looked distrubingly like Chile...long north-south, short east-west. The upshot was that I had more cities far from my capital. But even the cities near my Forbidden Palace were not helping me.
5. Are barbarians stronger? It seems to me that going into a hut with a warrior at Emperor is suicide, as they never can live when attacked by the 3 conscripts, even in a forest or across a river. At monarch, they almost always did.
Thanks for your help.
