I recently got a Sony Vaio. All of a sudden I notice that no matter what I play, its echoey, like its in a giant water filled cavern or something. I thoroughly explored all the sound settings and cant see what the problem could be. Any ideas?

Is the speaker cable plug in all the way? The channels on the connector could be shorting together if its not. Happened to me.

Good suggestion, unfortunately no, its plugged in solidly, I just checked. Maybe it could be some of the goofy software Sony added. The audio controller is HD Audio, thats from Intel right? I downloaded the drivers from Intel and could roll it back to the original, non Sony drivers, but Im wondering if that could cause some conflicts with other Sony junk. I suppose I could just roll them back again to the Sony drivers if that happened. Is it worth trying?

No its a desktop model. A laptop wouldnt last a week with me, Im too much of big clumsy gorilla.

It might be you have an "environment" setting on tthat simulates being, in your case, in a water fillec cavern.

BINGO! When you said 'environment' I remembered that Id been messing around with one of the computers cheesey apps called Sound Effects Manager. You can pick different environments, underwater, auditorium etc. I just set it to 'none', and now the sounds back to normal. You rule sir:goodjob:
