Space Victory is boring - needs old school style time to travel to Andromeda

At a minimum should take 10-20 turns to get there, so gives others a chance to take your capital.

Even better would be, can't remember in which civ, where you can configure your ship differently. E.g. launch with more/less engines to boost speed if your ship if launched after. Also should be a chance of it not making it there if you dont give redundant parts.

What do y'all think? Someone could mod that in I guess?

I too miss that model and would love to see that implimentation used again.

Once a space ship is launched, destroying it's point of origin will not affect the flight of the craft. Perhaps some type of weapon can be used within 1-3 turns of launch to try to destroy it, with the change of destroying less after each turn.

What we need is Alpha Centurai 2 and it needs to be made compatible with Civ 5 so that after you win a space victory you can import that Civ into Alpha Centurai 2 and continue where the space victory left off.

Science victory already is the longest victory type, and these suggestions don't seem to make dragging it out any fun.

As it is, you get notifications on civs building spaceship parts, so you can attack the capital already. Why on earth (pun intended) would destroying the capital stop the space victory if it's already launched?

A chance of it not making it there seems awful to me.

Instead of more ways to lose the science victory, I'd like to see more ways to win it, similar to what the ideologies add.

Another factor that makes it a bit longer (and more tedious) is transporting the parts to your capitol.

Andromeda...? :)

Nah... it's OK now. You have enough warning to react when you see the Apollo going up, and even worse, the first boosters being finished. Flying time was just an extra annoyance, in the end...

Science victory does need a revamp in the vein of the one the Culture Victory got.

It currently suffers from the same problems the old culture victory suffered. Build a few cities, then turtle up and run science specialists. It's not a very interactive victory type. It also sometimes just ends up being "Plan B" for domination players, since they will likely want to be very far ahead in the tech race anyways. It's probably the least interesting victory type at the moment.

Every victory condition is plan B for domination.

Want a culture victory? Sack the capital cities of everyone who has more culture.

Science victory kinda is the new culture win. At some point you just go "beaker mode" and press EoT and yawn it to finish. Don't say "up the difficulty" this happens to me on immortal all the time. They don't even try to stop me so...

Currently it feels like culture/domination is the only real victory conditions from now on, and I should just disable both diplo and science victories.

Agreed. While the launching was cool and all way back in the day, I prefer how it is now especially since turn 300+ games really drag out a long time.

This has been a dream of mine for years. I'd be happy with integrating the current SMAC, even without an updated version; it still ranks in my book as one of the finest Civ installments.

And then, of course, the ending of SMAC needs to be merged with something like Space Empires IV, for a seamless transition from 4000 BC all the way to galactic dominance. :king:

This is the main point here. You already have notification and warning time. Attack as soon as they have the first parts and you should be fine.

Andromeda is 2 million light years away. I don't want to wait that long for my spaceship to land. :undecide:

Alpha Centauri, not Andromeda.

I never saw a point to the wait. It always ended up being "the one who waited until everything was built won." I don't think the AI in Civ4 even bothered to launch a half-built ship so there was no point in you waiting too. Either you had the components or you didn't. If you didn't and they did, you weren't going to win.

Pretty much.

Also, you can prevent a space victory before the rocket is launched by destroying pieces in transit.
