Space's first HoF attempt

Come on, that score is not that high....

Darkness has obviously lost all sense of reality! Bremp score was number 1 for longer than any Olympic Record has ever stood! Only the power of Maya enabled it to be bettered...or should we say... smashed!

The thing is Darkness - Ive attempted to beat your score, I hazard a guess that you havent tried to beat your own score, therefore I believe I am in a better position to comment on how difficult it is to beat....and trust me, its DIFFICULT! :hammer:

BTW it's her in this case.

You have to forgive me, I dont often venture outside the HOF therefore I dont know anybody who isnt a regular here, and even then I dont know if Superslug is a 20-something guy in glasses or a 6 week old baby

Back to the game - any chance of a 1000BC & 10AD score report? if you have reached 10AD yet that is? :)

Don't fret, fret. (Sorry, couldn't resist that one. )
I've only played 100 turns so-far, I'll attach a nice little score chart.

I've played to 170 turns, so a lot has happened, high time for an update.

Our fight with the Hittites got us a leader, he leads a trio of seasoned swords even now. Heroic Epic was the obvioud consequence. Our second and last leader (:() died while inspecting the FP that was built under his supervision. ;)

Not building the Pramids myself was a mistake, since the Sumerians are bit too far of our core to attack quickly enough. They have Iron and a lot of swords.

When I got Sun Tzu's online (sold all our existing Raxes) things are looking much better. The English and Hittites are gone and the Zulu's broken. The Sumerians are eliminating the Mongols, the cities that are conquered are promply attacked by us though. That's a strat that works good.

Now the Mayans own 17% of the land and 37% of the worlds' population. Score 1433.

Another thing I would do differently in the next attempt is scout much more, not being used to huge maps it's clear I should have send out many more scouts than I usually do.

yes, sending out scouts is definately important , IMO. finding out where all the lux are and then getting them hooked up as quickly as possible.

how about a picture of your current holdings?

My condolence! During his last breath, he did manage to finish up your FP, right?;) He was truly a great leader indeed!

Just a quick update on current standings: the game has slowed down considerably because... I have reached (virtual ;)) domination and Steam Power is in. I do like to move my workers myself, but I grudgingly send out a few on auto (no alterations) now, with 211 towns and over 450 workers it's just too much to handle.

I am removing the last bits of the AI of the landmass leaving a few small islands for them to settle. My intention is to let the Dutch survive to the end of the game (I know , I'm just sentimental that way  ). It helps that they are on the smallest of the islands too.

Here's a graph of the score up to now (250 turns):

I'm now at that phase where I'm abandoning tundra towns to settle more fertile lands. The Mayans now know of Sanition too, and now I'm researching Rep Parts, both for increased worker speed and civil engineers to help my corrupt cities with their hospital-building. I've settled tight on desert and plains (where irrigation and RR doesn't get the tiles producing more food than the city tile itself will) and wide in grassy areas.
The military is used to patrol the now-empty tundra to stop the Barbs from popping up. I've experienced that workers or cannons do not help in that respect, it need to be attacking units.

Something weird happened when I was planning to attack the Iroqs: they were walking a good number of Medieval Infs through my land to get at some barb settlement, and my cities had the usual scant defense. He moved all the Med Infs and only after that decided to attack a coastal city with a Galley... :crazyeye: I had a good bit of the RR ready and my Cavs could pick off the Med Infs at leisure. Had he attacked he could've taken 6 cities, just like that...

So, here is where you have been hiding for months... And that's why you keep on saying that you are too busy... :mischief:

I was about to wish you good luck, but it appears that you have already won the game and are cruising towards a great score! Well, my wishes are ready and I don't want to trash them, so... good luck with your Sid attempt! ;)

High time for another update:

I am now exactly halfway through, in the 270th turn. I've moved most of my tundra towns to the grassy remains of the Incan lands. Now I'm carefully letting some towns expand their cultural borders to grab more grass. Also some of the mountain areas are 'given back to nature'. (I need that sheep smiley... )

After the last peace deal has expired, Spain was wiped off their islands and I'm glad to have kept my word to the AI throughout the game. I could well have caused my domination date to slacken a bit, but it'll be good to know what kind of points can be made without resorting to RoP rape etc. No leader has emerged from that last small war, which I hoped to use for a Palace jump.
Moving the Palace to the true center of the map will increase income a bit more.

I am not playing in 10 turn bouts anymore, as I can muster about 2 turns a day, ATM, but... things are getting a bit simpler now that most of the land is improved and I am down from about 2 native workers per town, to only 1. The Cavs are also helping to build those aquaducts and hospitals. I am replacing the mines with irrigation from the outside in, so the nation is still growing fast.

Pollution is not a problem yet, 1 or 2 outbursts every turn easily handled by the still extensive worker crews. I had left a FoW somewhere because we were visited by a Barb one turn, which made me wonder whether it'd actually be more fun just to leave it and have the troops exercise every now and then. :hammer:

Current points: 6628, +93 per turn.

Breaking news: it's 2051AD in my game and I've submitted it. It's not the top score but decent enough for a first try. :)

Full report will follow later. Actually the number of hours spent was less than I expected, knowing that I've left the game running to play a couple of turns between other pursuits too. :)

Yeah, right! ;)

Congrats! :)

Well done, especially for a first try! :goodjob:

So, will we see more HoF attempts from you in the (not so) near future? :)

[party]

Well done Space. Fantastic result. I really must have a go - if only I had the patience.
