Spaceship Factory

I have the BNW version of Civ5. I thought I'd try for a Science Victory. I completed the Apollo program and Satellite Tech. I was going to buy a Spaceship Factory, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a factory in the city, completed the Robotics tech, and have Aluminum in my civ with a completed mine on the tile. What am I missing?

have you maybe built the hubble space telescope wonder already? you'll get a spaceship factory for free then

No, I did not build the Hubble, as I was trying to speed things along and was just going to buy the Spaceship Factory. Building the Hubble would cost me turns.

I was going to suggest that perhaps you used up all your aluminum. But in that case I think the Spaceship Factory would appear in the build list, but be greyed out. Do you have a save file that illustrates this situation?

No, I wish I had saved the file, but I had won the game (by time.....sheesh) and deleted the files. I agree, if I was out of Aluminum, I would still expect to see the Spaceship Factory, but grayed out.

Anyway, I guess I'm thinking that Science Victory can be tough, as opponents know that the Apollo program is underway and surely someone is chasing a Domination Victory and planes/nukes/etc will show up within a few turns. Trying to stay strong for the eventual challenge sucks up happiness & gold. Such a delicate balance, that it is so easy to just decide to go for the Domination Victory, as you would have already built up significant forces.

I've been able to get Domination and Diplomatic Victories easily. Science is tough and Cultural is confusing (hard to understand if you are winning or what it takes to make progress.....staying small makes you an easy target and there is constant war).

Just a beginners thoughts.

Do you have more Aluminum available based on the strategic resource bar (on the top of the screen)? Maybe you exported it in a trade and forgot about it. And to ask the obvious question, did you have enough gold? It seems obvious, but I figured I'd ask just in case.

I recall seeing at least 2 Aluminum icons and had working mines on the tiles.

I think the spaceship factory is in Robotics now. I assume you got that tech?

Also, in BNW, I personally don't build spaceship factories going for space ship victories any more. I just go Freedom and cash buy either most or all the spaceship parts.
