Spaceship

I've now discovered everything, built every wonder, have every luxury resource and every strategic resource (except oil which ran out a while ago). Why won't it let me build my spaceship? I can't find anywhere that oil is required to build my spaceship. Can anyone let me know.

Can I assume you have built the Apollo Program small wonder. Can I assume you have selected the Space Race victory condition? Can I assume you have aluminium?

Other than that, I'm stumped! Sorry for not being helpful?

Yes I have built the apollo program, yes I have aluminium and uranium, no I don't have the space race victory. Does this mean I can't even build a space ship?

Strangely enough, that is correct. If you haven't selected the space race victory condition, the game doesn't let you build it.

I think the game's logic is "Well, if you don't want to win the game by building a space ship, then why would you want to build one?"

The same thinking works for not selecting the Diplomatic Victiory will prevent you from building the United Nations.

However, the game's logic is at fault if you don't select domination victory condition (winning by being the last civ standing). As you can still build military units!!!

Thanks. It seems a bit of a daft theory, coz it prevents you getting a high score if your going for a score victory. I'll turn all wins on next time.

yeah it sounds pretty dumb, I'd like to get special privalages/abilities for being head of the UN for 20 turns instead of that ENDING MY GAME, WTH...

Why not get a point bonus for a space ship too .

I think that the design idea behind this is that turning things on and off affects all civs not just you. I saw an aggrieved post on another forum where a guy couldn't understand why he got beaten "out of the blue" in 1969. He posted his saved game to underline how "unfair" it was and asked for a fix in a patch. Turned out he'd simply been beaten in a space race he didn't even know was happening!
