I use Outlook. I have set up various key words to filter out and add to this on a dailly basis and still I get around 150 spams through. Is there a good spam filter that people can recommend?
I use email for work and get genuine email enquiries from all over the world, so I have to be careful what I do filter out.

What would be good is a spam filter that sends an auto-response telling the sender that their message didn't get through.

Then they know to try again with different words. A spammer won't read the incoming mail ;)

That's my theory but it's untested :p

I have been getting spam recently. Didn't used to before. Damn spammers are getting smarter. I use hotmail and therefore can not block anything from MSN. Somehow the spammers have gotten hotmail to think that they are messages from MSN. SO I can not block them.

I have two e-mail addresses, one Hotmail through Outlook, which is my clean e-mail, spam free because I do not use it to sign onto things over the Internet, and a Yahoo one that is spammy, and i use it to sign upo to free things on the internet, and send my Spam to go there.

That system works the best, me thinks . . .

Well its Monday and I have had 216 Spams. I need to preview them all incase any are from a genuine potential customer. This takes up a lot of time, but if I get dlete key happy I can maybe lose that persons business.
I have just been talking to someone who has an anti spam program on the company network which "learns" as you delete. The problem is all his emails come up as suspect and it blocks any attachments he sends.

Might wanna check your computer for adware and spyware in addition to reviewing your rules for Outlook.

Be careful setting your rules because a lot of spammers are sending their copy in images. You can put a specific word or phrase in your rule, but because it may be contained in an image the rule won't pick it up. Look at the spam carefully. Usually there will be something at the end of the message that you can use.

We've had numerous incidents at work where there was adware present on a computer that was tied to spam.

I've eliminated the adware with a combination of Spybot H&D, Adaware 6.0 and HiJackThis. Along with some judicious use of Outlook's Rules Wizard we've cut down significantly on spam on these machines.

You can get Spybot and Adaware at Snapfiles.com/freeware/security-privacy/anti-spy tools. Best bet for HiJackThis is Spywareinfo.com.

We don't use McAfee's Spamkiller, but I understand that it is a good program. Might be something to look in to.

Thanks Nixnutz, I am downloading the Spybot and Adware progs. Hopefully they will help.
