Apparently not. Looks like the river ends on the tile 1S of Carthago.

Also -- why did we build a regular Archer in Caralis?

Beyond that, I looked at the save -- it looked like a few cities could stand to be re-MM'd.

It was already being built, must have missed it.

    Turnlog and Save:

    Spoiler :
Pre: Make some MM changes, go from -40GPT to -37GPT

IBT: Count 3 legionaries move on Sicily
    Olbia: Barracks > Catapult
    Liliebo: Walls > Catapult

295 BC (Turn 1): Move Unit's to prevent landing 1 tile away from Carthago.
Move a worker to Carthago Novo to ship back to the Core when it's galley finishes in 2.
Sell Darius World Map for Map and 48 gold.
Make similar deals and gain about 100 more gold.

    IBT: Thenae: Sword > Elephant
    Aleria: Archer > Sword

290 BC (Turn 2): Load 1 reg and 1 slave worker at Aleria to move to the core.
Whip harbor at Carilis. (1 citizen)

IBT: Carthago Novo: Galley > Galley
    Caralis: Harbor > Cat
    Icosium: Settler > Settler

285 BC (Turn 3): Get settler in place to found city #1.

IBT: Romans move a galley towards Olbia
    Carthago: Elephant > Elephant
    Macedon begins Hadrians Wall

280 BC (Turn 4): Found Uticia, start Barracks
Unload workers headed for Carthago near Ciarilis to attack Roman Galley.
Sink Rome's Galley with 2/4 HP left.

IBT: Egypt declares on us with Rome's urging.
Thenae riot's. (Was fine when I checked it)
So does Cirta. Must be the MA of Rome and Egypt or something.

275 BC (Turn 5): Found Theveste, start Barracks

Handoff Notes: When I founded Theveste it elimated the need for our only scientist, so beakers shoudn't waste much, but you might be able to gain a turn. I lowered spending this turn to reduce the deficit caused by my run for Lit. Cirta has the prebuild, but there isn't much there. I suggest raising science spending back up.

What happened in Sicily? Did the stack get destroyed or something?

AFAIK two swords survived and got evacuated in 300 BC.

    Got it.

I'm a little worried about the prebuild in Cirta. It'll take a good 40-50 turns to build the GLib there, so I wouldn't be surprised if an AI snaps it up.

    Edit:

Gamez, did you have a plan for that Worker in the galley by Cirta? I'm not sure if I should have him land this turn or next.

I went through the cities, changing some builds to War Elephants and MMing for science. With a raised slider, we get Lit in 3.

I'll be building troops and patrolling against Roman naval incursions. Is there anything else I should keep in mind? Do we have a source of Settlers anywhere?

The Roman's sent one my first and last turn, so I think that is probably about how often we will see a ship. We should get both Vet Galleys and Reg Galleys, so we can stack them and load cats into the rGalleys to help with the surviaval of our navy.

Yeah, 1 sword got destroyed, the other 2 are hanging around Carthago.

The worker in the galley was heading to Carthago, but we can turn the city west of Cirta into a 4 turner if we mine a couple hills, so you might want to unload where it is to get it up faster, it's better to unload into a city, though.

The workers in the 2/4 galley were heading to Carthago when the Roman galley showed up, so I dropped them of on the island and took out the galley, and reloaded them this turn.

The situation with the GL should improve with some Mining. If not, we should decide before we waste to many shields. That's an expensive elephant. If we get beat, we need a backup wonder to decide on.

By my calculations, we can get up to 15 spt (after corruption) in Cirta with some additional mines. Unfortunately, it'll take 30 or 42* worker turns to get mines constructed, plus another 18 or 21 worker turns to get roads constructed.

*We can mine and road three hills, or we can mine+road two hills and road a mined mountain. With the mountain, we'll have a 1fpt shortage at size 6, but the granary will moderate that problem. We also have to mine a BG

Roading a hill costs 6 worker turns
Mining a hill costs 12 worker turns
Mining a BG costs 6 worker turns
Roading a mountain costs 9 worker turns

    Option 1 (3 hills + BG): 60 worker turns
Option 2 (2 hills + mtn and BG): 51 worker turns

We have 5 workers immediately available, and we can get another 3 on-station by the end of my turnset.

Making some rough calculations based on that, I end up with ~28 turns for the GL.

Do we still want to go for it? It seems chancy to me.

Bacchanalia (available from Philosophy) would probably be a workable fallback.

I'll try to play tonight. If I can't fit it in, though, it'll probably have to wait until Thursday night or Friday morning.

Definitely not tonight. Aukrest, if you (or anyone else) will have time to play before Friday, feel free to take the save.

    I know!

Sunday would have been ideal, but the next three days are really busy. Once Friday rolls around, though, we'll have a little chat with Rome :trouble:

If it's okay with Sparthage, Elephantium could make a one time switch with Aukrest. That way, he still get's to play.
