This game has very interesting tactical aspect due to 1upt and hexes and I enjoy rolling AI with my winged hussars and then tanks. I prolly suck too much in this game but to me the problem is that I am able to achieve domination victory without much of a problem only on king and max standard map. I would enjoy tho to be able to do this on huge maps on higher difficulty but every time i try, mainly due to happiness mechanic, I cant do that and happines is the main factor. Very often then game degenerates to "hit the next turn game and wait for science victory" which is not fun. I'm not an expert on mechanics and math behind it, but it just feels not right. I understand not everybody likes domination victories, but for those that do main challenges should be managing cities -production, diplo also strategy and tactical decissions on the map. Happiness system shouldnt be such a heavy burden in domination games and it feels now that it is.

Are you puppeting and vassalazing? If not, that's going to be hard for warmongering.

Was playing China on emperor and become the biggest runaway with happiness easy as hell

I know that China (especially with artistry as a no-brainer) does not count though, will try something like fealty Spain and see whether having excess food and no artistry is that hurt

Still, is boredom a really great issue when not playing China? I dont think it is as bad as distress anyway.

Current game as shoshone and most of my cities have 0 non-Urbanization unhappiness so no issues there, but I wasn't really wide. Progress/Statecraft/Industry/Freedom

I'm a fan of just annexing and locking growth. Puppet unhappiness rounds up, so the difference can only 2-3 unhappiness, a city you control with full yields is better than a city you don't control with 80% penalties.

Speaking of unhappiness and puppets, why are there specialists being worked in my cities when my unhappiness is clearly greater than happiness? I know that the Unhappiness for the city is 4 as it should be. However, I also noticed Urbanization unhappiness when I check my overall empire happiness that aren't originating in my owned cities. Are other people also experiencing this?

50% penalty is okayish, and it does not increase cost.

Have to admit that imperialism is rather late though.

Some buildings, wonders and policies allow to have specialists without getting the unhappiness penalty (Artistry or Workshops for example). Those free specialists aren't affected by the rule, not being able to work specialists in an unhappy city.

This still doesn't explain why I still have unhappiness from Urbanization. I checked through every single owned city and got maybe 1 Urbanization unhappiness while, checking my empire unhappiness, I got over 20.

Are you actually getting unhappiness, I see you are at 100%. The tooltip might just be misleading you, maybe it appears at the empire level even if it is negated at the city level.

After looking at my game, I think that might be the case. The tooltip might be misleading after all as the 20 Urbanization unhappiness wasn't added to my total empire unhappiness. However, this still doesn't change the fact that I had to stop growth for many of my cities and can't really work many specialists. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmm. Are needs unhappiness also showing up in the Empire tooltip, including needs that have been negated by buildings? Urbanization should function the same way.

The Empire tooltip has been buggy for me as well. It shows I have like 60 urbanization unhappiness but I only have 40 unhappiness total.
