Specs question for XP

I think you can install 4G with XP but it won't address it all because memory on your gfx card and any other devices counts against the "cap". Many also say XP has issues addressing memory up near the cap. When I was running XP pro most recently I had 3G installed (2x1 and 2x512 for dual channel and usually had a video card with 512 or 640) and it was nice and smooth.

I held out with XP pro for a long time - totally skpped Vista. I'm loving Win7-64 on my new rig and don't miss my beloved XP at all.

There is 64 bit XP.

That said, I strongly recommend moving up to Windows 7. I love it so much I haven't played any windows XP games since.

Now that I have 4GB of RAM, my games actually run FASTER in DX10 than DX9

I though Vista was fine. That said, however, 7 is everything that Microsoft promised Vista would be and more. I see no reason to run any other windows operating system than 7 now.

I still run XP, in addtion to win7, just because I can. :)

There are some upsides. e.g. windows xp is a bit easier to fit on a flashdrive.

For gaming, not much point sticking with xp though. Win7 has done just fine for me, even for games that didn't say they were officially supported on win7.

The trick with win7 is not to buy it from a retail store. There you'd pay up to double or more what you should be paying. Pick it up from somewhere like ebay, and you can get win7 ultimate for a similar price to what xp home costs.

a lot of people, considering vista was absolutley terrible.

Windows 7 has been out for almost a whole year now?

it is perfect, no problems whatsoever since I got it on release, it is a lot better than both XP and Vista.

Even more strange however, is people that buy Windows 7 and install the 32 bit version :x

I really hope that from the next OS, Microsoft will only provide a 64 bit disk.
