Spies can not enter our borders (missing spy mission)

Anyone have any theories on why this was commented out?

Should it be re-implemented if the # of EP required is high enough?

Honestly, I can't see why this was removed (if you made it expensive enough). No more counterespionage missions, no more keeping a millions pies in all your cities etc... a lot less micromanagment.
 
But pie tastes so good, and a million pies would last a long time! :)

I guess you can sort of emulate that mission by closing your borders and ringing it with spies. Of course some can still get through, but you'll have a decent chance of catching most of them.

Of course this has the drawback that your borders are closed, so trade will suck.

For the record, I agree with this and other posts you've made. I think espionage could be fun if it were less focused on individual spy units, and more focused on attempting missions from the adviser window. I honestly cannot figure out what the act of moving spies all over the place adds to the game except a lot of annoyance. In my BtS games, I find myself ignoring espionage most of the time simply because it's too much work and it's time I can spend moving combat units or tweaking cities.
 
Moving spies on a pangaea isn't too bad, but when your foes are on other landmasses it takes so long to get them back into action after being returned to your capital after a successful mission they scarcely seem worth the trouble, even when you have railways and transports (shifting them one at a time by sub. means using a lot of subs).
 
No thoughts on whether this passive mission would have been a good option in the game? If it's in the code and already works, there had to be a reason to comment it out so it's not in the game currently.... right?
 
It would be a lot simpler if you could Airlift your Spies into enemy cities. After all, that's how Spies get around in the modern world, right?
 
I think it would, it would mean that spending Espionage against someone and keeping it 'in the bank' would actually be useful for an Espionage based strategy (because you would need to get your spies in... and keep others out)
 
One of the design considerations behind CIV is that the player should never feel "impotent." A mission can be expensive, likely to fail, doesn't matter, but if a player has no ability to carry it out at all, they get frustrated.

If you don't think you'd mind it, mod it back in, although I'm doubt the AI is still coded to use it properly (if it even ever was).

The insight I was looking at. I suspected it was that... but in light of the micromangement spying creates I just couldn't decide if it was a factor.
 
How could you prevent spies from entering your borders? They're SPIES... that's part of their job.

I do believe this is a bug, and I also believe it was fixed by Bruics patch... I couldnt be sure though, I only just installed it and started using it. I seem to remember it being mentioned in the fix notes.
 
Ive actually boarded another civs sub by accident.... sailed to where-ever HE was going, then realized I was on the wrong fargin boat. Got off at the first stop I could. Now that was pretty weird. I dont remember which, but it was either a vassal or a permallied boat....

Also, I fly to vassals on the other continent and march from there. I rarely have a use for my own attack submarines, other than hunting enemy nuke subs. Then again I dont play the spy games much like I should. Ive always been a tech blaster, and war only when needed. Tech first, THEN nuke after that...
