spies, continued

Maybe there's a "show signature after every post" button

Methinks, maybe we should all take a holiday break until January 3? And then resume during with the 'normal' order? Opinions?

I could do a holiday break if it suits people. Am enjoying this game and happy to savour it a little longer. :)

Got some time between xmas and new year, but can find plenty of ways to amuse myself! :) :)mischief:)

the good news:
- we have a prophet, who is enroute to the confu holy city
- we have a great engineer waiting to rush the statue of liberty, while we are researching democracy
- taj mahal is due in 1 turn for a nice golden age
- we are score and tech leader, diplo looks good, too
- perikles has only 20 units overall, while we have around 20 sitting on his border

the bad news:
- some of our cities lack specialisation
- only one theater build so far, they are damn cheap for us (creative) and we need 6 for the globe theater
- freddy is still alive with only one city
- I see the point in running theocracy, but what use has it, if we don´t build units
- we dont have enough units to conquer perikles completely, so I wont go to war with him

plan for my turnset:
- specialize our cities a bit more, uncluding changes of tile improvements around them
- change to pacificm during the golden age, change to free religion at the end of it (for diplo) and maybe universal suffrage for rush buying
- beeline to biology for uber farms and national park
- build more units for the next player
- construct enough theatres, banks and universities for the related national wonders
- berlin will be our second great people farm, so national park could be built there methinks
- I make the decision that essen should be our northern military center, so cottages get removed by watermills and workshops. To a lesser extend its nighbors bremen and cologne will be small military pumps as well for the upcoming war with greece

turn 1:
- golden age starts!! we get around 100 gpt at a first glance
- revolt to pacificm as planned and adopt Nationhhood for drafting and +25% spy points as its the theme of our game. Our capital sucks anyway so screw bureaucrazy.
- I loaded a galleon of maceman in the interturn, now I declare war aggainst freddy (small diplo hit with gandi and eli) and land them next to his city. We instantly get some serious war weariness, hope this plan doesnt backfire with complete kills option on

turn 2:
- somebody poisons the water of happytowne..grrrr - For revenge I poison the wells of Corinth

- pericles builds us versailles in sparta, how kind of him
- I can see 3 ships of Freddie around the world. This..could..get..ugly
- like last round I draft 2 muskets in random cities ;)

turn 3:
- hannover, the last german city is razed, but there are still 2 ships of him out there
- thanks to some emergency theaters and 10% lux rate our happyness is getting ok
- I have some unis under construction for oxford, future military cities are building barracks and the newer cities ziggurats and other basic stuff
Spoiler :

turn 4:
- OMG our caravel looses against a german trireme, this means at least one more turn of war
- ack, there are cottages near cretinburg, our heroic epic city. Get rid of ´em, the people are relocated towards Happytowne, where I build new housings for them
- pericles researches mil tradition, relocate all spy poins aggainst him so we can steal it when he´s finished

turn 5:
- I´m running out of cities to draft, so this time the people in our capital have to wear the guns
- our military looks better, I upgradet some units, too, start some siege weapons in the north

turn 6:
- democrazy in, go on towards chemistry for bio, military and better workshops
- get copper from elizabeth and start statue of liberty, rush half of it with great engineer, eta 10 turns but this will drop when golden age ends
- stop some useless trades with gandhi

turn 7:
- I kill the last visible german ship but freddy is still alive
- to make things worse, I accidently gift our spy in Corinth to pericles, I´m such an idiot, another spy of us was captured this very round :wallbash:
- on the bright side we got an great scientist, he builds an acadamy in great idiot farm, where he is born
- after some thinking I make peace with freddy, no point in searching the complete map for his ships. It was a mistake to declare on him in the first place, but to my excuse, without "require complete kills" he could have been dead 5 turns ago

turn 8:
- last turn of the golden age, I revolt to free religion and leave everything else as it is for now (I had many options here, but I like rep+caste, plus we will have the SoL)
- on a sidenote, the ex german city of khazak has scotland yard in it, something to remember
- our people enjoy life, so they are drafted into the army

turn 9:
- army upgrade complete, we have no more warriors, archers or spearmen and only one last vulture in hairy palms for educational purposes
thank You, barbs, thank You
- pericles wants democrazy for free, I decline
- I will stop next turn, I micro our cities so that they finish their current build if possible

turn 10: we have a big empire, so I save here and pass it over to the next player
note: I have not draftet this turn, and I didn´t start any national wonders, because I started so much in my last turnset

at last, a view on our target

Versailles in Sparta!! That is wunderful.

Greece has lots of nice wonders. Nice turns wenz!

Regarding the tech path, finish RP, steal MT, then SciMethod.

IMO, we can start the war as soon as we steal MT. Just keep a pike and another unit in our border cities.

We should take advantage of our tech lead and build more spy buildings and banks. Once we get the spy buildings up, we can go Emancipation and dump our specialists into spies.

I will have access to civ throughout until the new year (and I only have 3 working days in that time frame :) ) So we'll keep going.

Berlin should start our galleon fleet; 4-6?

Roster:
Mitiu Ioan - recovered the economy
wenz - set up for war
Trivial - UP!
Admiral Kutzov - on deck
Beorn-el-Feared - skipped per request (B, I'll swap if you want a set)

@ all, hammer me over the head with dates of unavailibilty.

I'm available. But not to you for dating, no. Our relation is strictly professional, Admiral. Anyways, still working on the BBB issue since we last talked about it...

Nice turns Wenz!

Call this a tentative got it.

Here's a schedule over the next few days:

Tonight - I might be drunk, depends who's about.
Tomorrow - I will be a stinking holiday drunkard.
Sunday - more civing time if I don't have an evil hangover.
Monday > Wednesday/Thursday - away for Xmas.
Friday onwards - normal service resumes.

So basically, I'll hopefully play Tonight or Sunday. If not then there will be a short intermission before I return.

Last day at work today - and no more until 2nd January - can't complain about that! :)

ok this is my last visit in the forum before I take off for holidays, which You merry christmas and happy new year guys =)

Here's a schedule over the next few days:

Tonight - I might be a little happy.
Tomorrow - I will be a stinking holiday drunkard, I will be at the in-laws
Sunday - more civing time
Monday > Wednesday > more civing time
Thursday/Friday onwards - working :(

@ B - :rotfl:

Righty! I ended up properly steaming drunk both Friday and last night. Going to let my hangover simmer down, eat some fatty foods and should be fine to play this one at a point in the next 6-12 hours, if that suits.

I'd curse hangovers, but I'm sure anything this painful has to be character building? :)

Have a great Christmas y'all! :)

More Spying action!

Going to strike heavily from Stuttgart against Argos and Cologne against Corinth... so I start by moving a few troops around appropriately.

This save is great though - very tidy and pleasant!

Figure we need more jails. They increase the espionage income from 2.5 to 10.5 in a city with courthouse - that's very significant IMO... and they're cheap.

Press enter.

IBT saboteurs blow up our ziggurat in Munich.

Shuffle troops around, wait for the price of espionage to fall. Minor builds don't get listed as there will be far too many!

1605AD - Shaka and Elizabeth go to war.

1610AD - Rep parts is in. As per AK's thinking - go for Sci Method next - although there may be possible trade options for that?

The spy in Corinth has got enough points/bonus together for the mission, so I pull the trigger to steal military tradition.

Spoiler :

He's captured (and thus a brave matyr!), but suceeds... Fantastic!

I'd really like to pull some trades here, but it'd mean giving up gunpowder. Thinking about it, we have a decisive enough troop advantage, that even if this got to Pericles I don't think it will save him. So I go ahead.

Inca get Gunpowder and Military Tradition for Sci Method and gold. We have oil, which is cool. Set for communism.
Ghandi gets Gunpowder and Military Tradition for Economics and Divine Right. We've now got all the tech the AIs have. Debated about economics as we will lose our castle bonus, but it opens up corporation, which we will need and the trade option may be gone soon.

Redistribute our EPs as the ones with the greeks will be useless soon.

No more Mr Nice TriviAl:

Spoiler :

See that look of terror in the eyes! THIS IS SPARTA! :)

1620 Corinth falls.

Spoiler :

Costs us a Trebuchet in the softening up stage - rest of our troops pull through for us.

1625 IBT we lose a caravel to a Greek Frigate. Our Summerian sledgehammer falls on Argos:

Spoiler :

Killing all defenders for no losses. The Corinth stack gets a medic 2 knight and settles for 2 turns of rest.

1630AD - the SoL comes in.

Spoiler :

Yay! My assbiting computer decides to crash at this point. Fortunately, the autosave is from this turn, so no biggie. Adjust for a lot more spy specialists. This increases our spy income by 50%.

1640AD - smash into Thebes:

Spoiler :

killing all defenders and taking the place. Costs a mace and a treb. Communism in - set for Biology.

1645AD - played an extra turn to move a stack next to Athens. Decide this is a good thing for the next person to start their turn on - can unleash our new Curassiers onto Pericles!

Our new territory:

Spoiler :

Brief summary

60% of the Greek empire is in our hands. Rising to 80% next turn.

Have stolen military traditon, learned Rep Parts, Communism, Sci Method, Economics and Divine Right.

We were not first to Communism, so missed the free spy.

I really shouldn't have traded for economics and Divine Right - we are at WFWYMK with Incas - sorry about that - not sure what I was thinking.

We are close to double the EP income of 10 turns ago. Jails and free Statue of Liberty spies are to thank for this. More jails are inbound in large numbers.

looks good, although I'm heavily into the schnapps tonight. I will play tomorrow when sober. BTW, I am at the inlaws, but they have schnaps and vodka so all is good. @T :salute:

To all, merry christmas. I'm on the naughty list and what are you doing to get there? :crazyeye:

really, I'll play tomorrow.

If anyone has time, short term, mid term and long term goals? I'm concentrating on short term whackage. I'll play n about 18 hours

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even Hauna;
The spies were placed by the cities with care,
In hopes that Sumerians soon would be there;
The trebs were loaded, all snug with their stones;
while visions of wonders danced in their heads;
And Pericles in his silly hat, and I with beer on tap
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out on the plains there arose such a clatter,
Pericles sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,
But AK and three tiny Stacks of Doom,
With a hardly a quiiver, so lively and quick,
Pericles knew in a moment his time would be over right quick.
More rapid than eagles our courissaires they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, maces! now, trebs! now, spies and horsemen
On, Jumbo! on Archer! on, axes and frigates!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

The Greeks are dead. Doing clean in aisle three. There a GS looking for honest employment. I built the Diao Mao. We have steel working on steam.

Short Term - build up the economy. Banks, zigs, markets, grocers. Confused and Taoist missionaries. Maybe islamic too. shouldn't be that hard to pop another prophet. Build the fleet of galleons. Gandhi is the next obvious target. Steam for levees. Rifles or Rails next? Leaning towards rails and then steal or trade for rifles.

Consider weighting Gandhi 2 in the EP department with the rest one. More spy building and then use for spy specialists. Steal corporation. Steal or trade for blimps and corporations. Sell theocracy to Shaka for all his
gold! GS is parked in Great Idiot Farm.

Mid-term - Free Religion? Upgrade the maces and trebs.

Long-term - Combustion?

I have difficulty with small wonders beyond the NE. Hopefully I've put Oxford in a good spot. Need to decide where we want Ironworks and the Globe theatre. We've got forest preserves at Corinth. After it finishes the zig, it should the national park.

Note: there are now three military instructors in Cretinburg. It is also building a drydock. Red Cross there later?

:xmassign: :newyear:  http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/11866/AK-01_AD-1700.CivBeyondSwordSave

Sounds good there! And 10/10 for xmas poetry format. :)

Red X in cretinberg sounds good!

As for the IW, I just tend to throw it in the highest long term production city and crank wonders for most of the game.

On the techs, guess it depends where we're heading. If it's world domination, then combustion (and an evil white cat/midget clone) sounds good. If we're going for the stars, then I figure persuing the sci method line of techs would be good...

And merry christmas/happy new year to y'all!

I like to put IW and Mil Acad (or whatever the name) in the same city to push out as many units as possible. This may not be our favoured option though, if we want to maximize spy use.

So we want economy, rails and unit upgrades. Mostly Conquest from now on? After a great continent with all 3 corruption killers, sounds like time to jump abroad and keep just enough cities to heal our troops when it's convenient.

Looked at our save, looks really good. Levees will be great, we have rivers everywhere. Once we have coal, we can use ironclads to bury India in rubble. I'll build economy buildings (are custums houses really that good? I don't think they're great, not with but 2 trade routes/city)

Civics: people want emancipation, should we give it to them? I'd take the opportunity to grab an actual economy civic, such as State Property (watermill/levee spam) or free market. Mercantilism has nice specialists but we'd lose foreign trade ... still tempting though Especially if we delay corporations.

Techs: we'll want rifles, cavalries, infantries, railroads and a navy in short order. Thus I'd research rifling next, then rails. With a revolution, that'll be 10 turns. After that we can choose where to push: air, seas or ground units.

Emancipate them, the unhappy hit isn't worth it. State Property is good if we're going conquest.

rifles then rails is fine with me.

Sell theocracy to Shaka for all his gold!

On it, xcl.
