This is the spoiler for the Khmer...Ruled by the benevolent Suryavarman II.

If you should not be here....Please leave.

I am not sure how much time I will be able to dedicate to this thread, but I will try to make a consistent effort.

The first goal for the Khmer was to settle on a plains hill in for the extra production and the defensive bonus. For this reason we moved and settled on T1. Would liked to have seen more resources in the capitol, but this site will be sufficient. We began building a worker and started researching Agriculture.

Our scout will be on the move looking for huts and, ...well, scouting because that's what he is good at.

Here are a couple shots to help explain myself a bit...

I wanted to get the bonus hammer for my first worker...that's why I gave up the starting spot, which many may think was a mistake. Moving also left room for cities to the east that won't need protecting for the most part.

This city site has good production early...(chopping), and can be converted to cottages later.

My scout picked up a very nice map of open ocean from a hut.

Most of my early science will come from specialists, so we will be researching writing early.

Just need to scout the SE cow site for additional food resources..and then we'll be moving W for the real adventure.

:yuck: One tile away from the coast, a desert in the bfc. Then again, there is potential for 3 cities with good food in your backland. Might want to run a specialists economy.

Specialist economy for sure for at least the first 150- 200 turns. Then...if I'm still alive...will start to transition into CE....

I was not thrilled to see the deserts either...but I doubt my cap will EVER reach size 19, so a few tiles that are not workable wont matter.

Sorry I have very little to put into this and that is not going to change.

I just founded city #2 to grab Horses and Cows....it is coastal and on a hill!

I am 2 turns from founding Hinduism and I am using the minor chop a settler while growing exploit in the cap. So I am about 8 turns to founding city #3.

I am not simming anything...just flying by the seat of my pants!:D

I think you should have founded on the horses, you could have gotten the ivory hooked up quickly that way. Oh, and more workers! ;) PS. any movement on the diplomatic front?

I thought about founding on the horses....but not for very long! I wanted the defense from the hill and the fresh water and coastal (just in case). I anticipate it being a holy city also...so elephants will be no problem. Even if not a holy city, with the Creative trait, it should not take too long. I also consider a horses pasture a pretty powerful tile to work.

I am negotiating a settlement line with AT, (I don't plan to settle any further south anyway), and I have agreed to a non aggression pact with the ever dangerous Romans. Basically I am hoping the other 3 will fight each other while I develop my little corner of the globe up to cats/elephants. If GW can survive being in the middle....which he should if he has iron close and prioritizes it....we may be able to work together once I have elephants to counter the Praetorian threat.

The hill isn't fresh water though, but good luck with the rest of the strategy...

Are you going to adopt the religion immediately? You won't be able to spread it to your capital until you've got meditation or monotheism, so I'd wait.

No need for anarchy right now....it could easily spread on its own through trade routes.

So it has been a very long time..... 2000 years more or less, and the world has changed dramatically.

The Inca bolted to an amazing early lead on the back of the Oracle! :goodjob:

The Romans expanded peacefully and set the standard for Diplomacy in the world! :goodjob:

The Chinese expanded slowly and set their sites on BIG SHINY buildings, and built a lot of them! :goodjob:

So what happened to the Khmer?

Their leaders were baffled at the early prowess of the neighboring civilizations. Their planners did not anticipate the speed at which any of the neighbors excelled at their chosen paths'. They seemed dismally prepared for the task that lay ahead of them.

But an interesting thing happened as 1AD approached......they are actually ahead in some very interesting measures. Crop Yield, Manufacturing, and Land Area, (they are healthy also, but we're still not sure of the benefit in that statistic:p). With 2 decent city sites still undeveloped, there may be promise for the Khmer after all.

Diplomacy will probably be the key to the next 1500 years. This is actually where the Khmer may have learned the most in the first 3900 years.

We are currently allied with both the Romans and the Chinese. We all see the Inca as the greatest threat to World Peace...(or was it World Domination???)

Hopefully...the Khmer leadership learn quickly, produce massively, and grow steadily!

    Time will tell!!!!

The BIG news was the actual DoW after the ending of the Triumverate alliance.

It was not totally unexpected, but it was definitely a little confusing based on the post by the General which said he "accidentally" moved some units across the border, but, "no one died". Well apparently the Chinese felt enough harm was done and the battle was engaged! I thought we should have tried to go for a cease fire because the Chinese were not REALLY prepared (power graph was still very low), but he said he could handle it so to war we went.

Then 2 Chinese cities were burned by amphibious attack and we knew we were in for a long haul. :(

Then the RNG GODS decided that my NE city with about 5-6 world wonders in it should burn on the basis of 2 losses....1 @ 22% and 1 @ 44%. That was a sad day for the Khmer. :( :( :(

Memphus is teching to Combustion, with the master feeding gold to the Vassal. :crazyeye:

We are about 5-7 turns behind them on that path, but we are still ahead by Physics and Constitution, so the tech race is quite a battle also.

Some more screens just for fun...

If anyone wants specific information, please feel free to ask!!!

How many/what type of units are there in W_Central? The city looks like an ideal spot to hit with Cavs and airships.

That is my intention is after the Generals stack at Rajavihara is eliminated.

And that is exactly what happened this past turn!!! I hit the Generals stack with Airships *5, followed that by hitting him with 5 cannons promoted barrage *3 and drill *2, 2 survived and withdrew. I then lost about 2 cavs and 2 rifles in exchange for about 24 dead Roman units, a smashing victory, much better than I anticipated. :D I expected about a 1 for 3 loss rate, so I should be able to gon counter offensive pretty quickly.

My HE city is the city NE of W Central, and combined with Rajavihara, I have been pushing on the Roman borders with a lot of culture for a long time. The HE city is producing 1 unit/turn, and my cap is now producing 4 airships in 5 turns!

We are probably going to loose control of the oceans to combustion for a few turns, but we are making headway for sure!
