I've wondered about doing a possible Spratly Islands scenario--those supposedly oil-rich islands in the South China Sea currently claimed by China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Any suggestions?

I think this is a great idea, I´d be able t help you with the scenario.
I could write a kind of story around the scenario, to put in as events, too. Just tell me if you need my help.

Sincerly,

I think i would be great.I read that russia has been selling china navel tech that includes newer and silent sub tech, and newer anti ship missles it could be a show down for the chinese with the west once and for all:) I would love to play it

The get some tips on how to make a scenario covering the Spratly's download the scenario 'Pitt's War at Sea', which features extensive island hopping.

didn't they make a game circled around those islands? it was called SSN or something, and then Tom Clancy wrote a book about the game. from a US submarine's point of view. but i like the idea, it might actually happen someday.

much more likely than Chinese-Russian war is. oh, sorry, does Case post here too?

Note:I'm not knocking any of Case's scenarios, just having a bit of fun with him. i wouldn't want a certain scenario update denied to me.

lol h, I liked raging dragon, dont knock it bro heh

played as pakistan, nice and challenging :D even tho it sez DONT PLAY PAKISTAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

poo to you, case :D

Everyone's picking on me

I included the Spratly's in Raging Dragon (not that they were good for much ;) )

just to set the record straight, i was NOT knocking raging dragon. the reason is two fold, one i stated above, the other is that it was a damn good scenario.

I didn't think that you were knocking it :D
(BTW, I don't like Raging Dragon much - it's too complicated [and I spent too long making it])

RD has some nice replayability, Case, but if you weren't satisfied, then make sumthin even BETTER hehehehe

maybe we should team up on something, not that I have any particular skills besides storymaking

OK, I got the beginning of a story together with the most probable countries to support the contestors. Anybody still up for making the scenario?

Hmm, well I'd be up to playtest this for sure, it seems my skills are the same as Tracid's and he beat me to this one lol

Rhodry, I would be perfectly good with you kicking in into the scenario, too, I think it would make it better if we made a story together, don´t u think?

The date is May 19th, 2003

On a small groups of islands in the South China Sea, called the Spratly Islands, tensions are high and about to break into full scale War. In September 2002, an american drilling company had discovered a vast oil field around the archipelago, heating up the long, drawn-out conflict yet again.
The Spratly´s are contested by the People´s Republic of China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and the Phillipines. In the last month, the other nations of the region have sided with one or the other side to ensure the flow of oil for their country and the wealth associated with it.
The United States of America view the claim made by the Phillipines as the rightful, and support them with arms sales and massive political support. Also Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia have signed pacts sieht the Philippines to ensure their share of the revenues from the oil field.
Malaysia has ensured the support of India for arms sales, India looking for independence from oil imports from arab states backing Pakistan.
Taiwan has signed an alliance with Singapore,Japan and South Korea, the two nations looking for a cheap source of oil for their massive industries. Japan even passed a new chapter for the constitution, allowing it´s self-defense force to operate outside it´s national waters. Japan has increased arms deals with the US but also with russia, not willing to rely on a sole supplier for it´s weaponry.
Russia, desperate for foreign currency for much needed reforms has been seeling advanced arms also to China, which has made threatening gestures towards all of the other nations claiming the Spratly´s.
Vietnam, as an international pariah has had much trouble finding supporters for it´s cause. They also rely heavily on russian weapons and have signed an alliance with Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Bangladesh.
All of those nations have been busy upgrading their military´s, not willing to give up the hope for the oil and revenues from the area.
While the world watches with horror, the weapon-loaden South-East Asia is awaiting the uninvitable: War over the Spratly Islands.

Let's work on it Tracid, I didn't notice you were online

I'm sure that this won't detract from the scenario's playability, but to make it realistic then surely Indonesia should be competing with the Philippines for these islands.
