Spreading Religion question

Is there a setting that can be changed to allow more than one religion to be automatically (i.e. without using missionaries) spread to a city?

As long as you are not running the Theocracy civic, more than one religion can already spread automatically around your empire. Once the religion's Shrine has been built, it tends to happen a little faster.

Having said that, I usually just create missionaries to spread it manually since it can be slow to spread on its own.

religion only spreads naturally to other cities without a religion already in it. The rest has to be done with missionaries.

I want to know if it can be editted so one doesn't have to rely on missionaries. I run into the situation that religions that the AI discovers rarely gets spread to my cities.
