looking for advice on how Russia might win the space race. I have only just started the game

in terms of early strategy i will conquer my continent (unless its pangea)
build a mega production city with ironworks
stay up on tech by spamming cottages, libraries and universities
and build an elite force of commandos/spies in case I need to sabotage the AI

what else do i need to do in the early game

and how long does it take to build launch and land a space craft in BTS

Beeline your UB and use Representation, that will give you a decent science boost in the modern age, which will help you win the space race.

The dates change depending on the difficulty level. Playing on Emperor I usually land around 1950 or later, very rarely earlier.
