SSG01 - Succession Story Game - Holland to Hydrae

lurker's comment: The SoZ is immune to cascades most of the time, as Ivory is usually only held by 1 or 2 civs on a standard map. Heck, the Japanese might be nice and build it for you! In fact, that could possibly be manipulated by trading them Mathematics. The AI is a sucker for wonders, especially military ones. It looks like they haven't done any roading at all, so there is no hurry for the SoZ anyway. If I was a betting man, my bet is that those 5 Ivory tiles are the only ones there are, and none are hooked up. So in a back-assward way, I agree with AutomatedTeller. Forget the SoZ for now, and spam workers, settlers and archers. You may need the archer rush to grab Iron anyway, that starting location seems like Iron might not be too handy. And while I'm betting, here are several other prognostications. War: you guys are going to need many wars to get enough space, resources, and specialist farms to win this. AI runaway: with so many civs packed on this continent, the other one will be spacious but lux-poor. If someone over there gets frisky and grabs lots of territory, they will gve you a run for your money. You might end up trading luxes to them for money later on, but beware of helping them too much. It's funny, this map reminds me of my last space game. Crowded start but plenty of luxes handy. Early wars are in the cards. Looks fun but challenging.

If I were you guys, I would be getting ready for war really, really soon. I loaded up the save from a turn back and there was war all over it seems and some of it was coming to the Red and the Yellowish territory.

Now I know why I don't play at Emp level.

You could also let them waste a ton of shields trying to build it, then when it gets close to being finished, archer rush the city building it. ;)

How do you know there was war?

When you see archers entering another Civ's borders and coming back with yellow stripes - it is usually war. Most civ's don't chase barbs into another's land.

I played as far as I wished to play - I didn't have to stop after 10 turns so I wandered around a bit.

Please be careful about playing ahead and sending back information from the future. This is a general enough comment to be OK, but is getting a bit close to information we don't want to know. I don't think you did anything wrong, I just want to make sure that other people don't get the idea they can extend the concept.

Thanks! :goodjob:

CivRulesAll, are you out there? I haven't seen an official "got it" from you. Please check in with us over the next day or so, so we can be sure you are still with us. No rush on playing, I just want to make sure you are still around and are thinking about the game.

It sounds like the prevailing view is to conduct an archer rush on Japan. Obviously, we therefore need at least one 'rax and a bunch of archers. I agree that Rotterdam is the obvious place for one 'rax, and I would suggest that The Hague get one, as well, after we pump a worker. The Hague will be a productive town, and once we get a mine or two laid down, we should be able to get units produced quickly. Perhaps an alternating cycle with workers and archers.

I would also suggest that we also may need some gold for embassies so that Japan is on the receiving end of the dogpile and not us. I don't want to take on hoplites until we get something better than archers, so I would suggest an embassy with Greece may be a good place to start.

The save that I played from was older and so I made choices that you did not make - that changes the game that you get

I was only reminding y'all that - at this level - the crowded Civs are more bloodthirsty. I don't think that what happened in my game is going to happen here but I do think the AI is plotting and planning for a weakness to exploit.

Sorry if I mis-spoke or went too far. <<my bad - my troops will move automatically>>

lurker's comment: I think it's a bit too early in the game to worry about dogpiles, and you should kill them pretty quickly anyway. Don't waste your cash. ;)

oh - we should be sure to give in to any demands we get from japan and probably persia. Those from other civs we can give the finger to, but japan is in a position to really hurt us for awhile and I really don't want to run into Persia if they have immortals and a GA, at least until we get a rax or two up and some archers.

On what basis do you believe that Japan is dangerous? When I checked the M.Ad. when I opened that game, we were strong compared to Japan.

Assuming Japanese demands are reasoanble , then I would agree. If we research a monopoly tech and they demand that for free, then no.

But let's get that 'rax up right away. I vote for converting the current builds in Rotterdam to 'rax, and in The Hague to a worker, then 'rax. The sooner we have a decent standing army, the less likely the AI will demand stuff.

japan is dangerous because A) They make cheap rax and B) when they decide to go after somone, it will be us.

I have no idea how we could possibly be strong compared to japan with 3-4 warriors, since they started with 2. If we were, it will be temporary.

The Plan Anaxogoras stated seems sound. what should be our immediate Targets? Tokyo should be one of them, If i guess rightly, Kyoto is also nearby

CivRulesAll - You've got 12 more hours to post a "got it" or some other evidence that you are out there. Then we skip.

In another game, (Rod01) he said he was grounded and couldn't take his turns.

Regrettably, I think we need to declare a skip at this point. CBob, give us a thumbs-up when you can, please.

Roster:

1. Anaxagoras - In the Hole
2. AutomatedTeller - practicing new tricks with AutomatedPenn
3. Rodent - just played
4. CivRulesAll - skip
5. CommandoBob - UP!!
6. ThinkTank - On Deck

Got it!

Working on a story idea right now.

Take an Event and base a story around it. It can be as small as growth of a city and as big as WAR!
