SSG01 - Succession Story Game - Holland to Hydrae

Well, we are a couple sets past it, but I went ahead and posted a new story from the first turn set. We needed at least one other character to refer to. I hope it is enjoyed.

This is a lot smaller than we expected.

Wow!!!

Now that is a story - especially for a long time Trekie.

thanks for a great read.

lurker's comment: *Looks at AI capitals*

AAAAHHH!!!!!! MINED WHEATS AND WASTED IRRIGATION! IT BURNS... IT BURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :run::run::run::run::run:

Nice story, CBob. Sci-fi is a different take, but a good one. What other genres can we add to the mix? Fantasy? Western? Comedy? I'll be interested to see.

Thank you both.

Now if I just knew what happened next. :D

Several loose threads, such as
  • How closely do these people look like the Ditch?
  • Long life is not a problem, but how do they live among short timers?
  • How do they fit in with the Ditch culturally? Hygiene? Diet?
  • How exactly do they encourage the Ditch to throw rockets into space when the Ditch cannot throw rocks at their enemies?

Mostly what I wanted to do was provide a story arc that others could use. I do expect great battles and great leaders and I look forward to reading those histories. But if the turnset lacks great drama, like this one did (we almost had a two battles; Oh, the suspense is dreadful!), it can be hard to see anything to write a story about. Here we have some rather generic characters whose lives can span multiple turnsets. There are 50 characters total and we've only met eight of them.

Will I use them next go around? Depends on the game.
Is anyone forced to use them? No way; this is anaxagoras' game, not mine.
Will I be spamming the story thread with 'supplemental' tales. Not likely.
Can others tell stories about them? Sure. (If we do good enough, we can all talk about a book deal later! )

lurker's comment: Solution to Long-life problem: After they live with the Ditch for a while, they disappear, then someone says they "died", and then they come back, using some device to make it look like they're a different person.

Or, for fantasy, they can come to somebody in a "dream" and say that they are gods, when you research Polytheism, and you've got the Ditch a religion.

Nice set, CBob, and great story twist. I look forward to seeing where this goes!

BTW, CBob, this isn't MY game. We all play the turns and tell the tales. I just keep the roster. Speaking of which (what a segue!):

1. Anaxagoras - On Deck
2. AutomatedTeller - In the Hole
3. Rodent - contemplating hibernation
4. CivRulesAll - skip/no word on return
5. CommandoBob - just played
6. ThinkTank - UP!!

ThinkTank is up in at least one other SG I know about, so no rush here. This is the relaxed game.

Looks like Greece and Zulu are wasting their GA in despotism fighting each other, which is good - those two are both pains in the butt (pillaging hoplites are a total pain during war)

Portugal has a start that could be good for a human, but is tough on an AI until they get out of despotism.

Persia's start is another that the human would do well with.

Japan seems to be the biggest problem for us.

I am on deck, but ThinkTank hasn't posted yet, and I head out of town on Friday for a week. Depending on how soon ThinkTank is able to go and on what the rest of you want to do, I can skip, swap, or we can just keep the pace slow. Whatever you folks want.

It make take another 2 days or so before I can play, so if you want to swap, that's fine with me.

Go ahead and take your turns, ThinkTank. If you finish soon enough, I'll take my turns before I leave, then write the story while I'm on vacation. There is an off chance I can upload while I'm on vacation, and then we'd have a complete set more or less on schedule.

@anax, please skip me or do a swap, I was not able to play and won't be until start of next week.

OK, I'm going to post this as my own "got it" message, but I'm going to play the turns before I leave, then write the story while I'm on vacation. So there will still be a bit of a hiatus in the game. If any writers want to submit a story to the story thread in the meantime, please be my guest.

I meant to add: consider this a swap, ThinkTank. I'll post a roster in a little while.

I think i can write the story for you anax. I foresee free time in the future ;)

Here's the current roster. If anyone objects to the swap or wants the game to move a bit faster, please let me know. Pending any objections, however, the roster now looks like this:

1. Anaxagoras - UP!! - Swap with ThinkTank
2. AutomatedTeller - In the Hole
3. Rodent - contemplating hibernation
4. CivRulesAll - skip/no word on return
5. CommandoBob - just played
6. ThinkTank - On Deck - Swap with Anaxagoras
