Far too different to compare. You can compare Star Trek to Star Wars / LoTR to Chronicles of Narnia, but you can't compare SW and LoTR.

Well thats true. Its like comparing apples and oranges. You can compare LoTR to any Medivel Theamed movie and Star Wars to any Scifi Theamed movies.

Lord of the Rings beats the crap out of Starwars 1-2, i don't bother to give 3 a chance. Lord of the Rings pales in comparison however to starwars 4- 6, yea im a sci-fi geek you can punch me now

I voted Star Wars . I don't like LOTR , because ( in my opinion ) it distorts beauty of the book . Star Wars spoils no book and is pretty good story by itself .

Star Wars just can't compete with LotR, be it on the story level, the acting level, the image level or the SFX level.
They just don't play in the same league.

Let's get this straight. Star Wars is not sci-fi. Just because a story is set in space and has lasers does not make it that particular genre, just like a story set in this day and age and has guns does not automatically make it a spy story.

That said, SW is Pokemon compared to LOTR.

It's sci-fi fantasy. It fits in both, although it leans more sci-fi. Now, I like Star Wars better (shocked?). Sure LotR is great, but Star Wars is the best compared to anything sci-fi or fantasy.

Star Wars (original trilogy) is made up of better movies then LoTR. But LoTR has better books than Star Wars. I voted for Star Wars though because this thread is about the movies not the books.

I find Lord of the Rings immensely boring. So Star Wars gets my vote by default, though Lucas has come close to losing this vote due to the, ahem, prequels.
