A couple years ago I was toying with the idea of a Stargate mod where you play your civ game mostly as normal, except that you may be visited by the Goa'uld, Asgard, Ori, Ancients, Wraith, etc. whose actions may or may not be dependent on what you do in turn. For example...

Goa'uld: If they visit you when you have more primitive technology, they might demand that you worship them as a gods, or destroy you if you do not. Of course, they may simply blast your civilization (and others on the planet) to the brink of extinction for pleasure, or if you are too advanced.

Ori: Much like the Goa'uld, except they may send various advanced plagues to "convince" you to follow Origin instead of destroying your planet outright as punishment for refusal. They would be far less likely than the Goa'uld to destroy a planet for pleasure.

Asgard: These guys would most likely either ignore you or help you out by giving your civilization/planet advanced technology.

Ancients: Same story as the Asgard. They might put a Stargate* on your planet if you don't have one.

Wraith: These guys would cull your planet's population for their food supply (ingame effect would be to drastically reduce the population of your cities) or try to destroy you if you are too advanced.

*The Stargate would serve as the means of gathering the Naqadah and Trinium resources for whichever civ controls it. It would also have a very small chance every turn of granting your civ advanced alien tech if you are in the modern era (to simulate sending teams of explorers through the gate). The Naqadah and Trinium resources would be used for power generation and building various things to use for defending your planet (or you could be corrupt and use said alien tech against other civs).

Here is a three year old thread.

    http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=265214

The link is to a desired unit-based scenario, where you control SG teams. We never did develop a list of interesting tasks.

Since then, I tried working with the Final Frontier Mod to make an all Goa'uld scenario. I changed Solar Systems to planets, although "continents" on the planets still look like individual planets. This was a more civilization-scale story.
