Did a search but couldn't find the right keyword I assume.

Anyone have a list of what the starting resources are for each terrain type you can settle on? I rarely seem to get 2 hammers on my starting city, but remember once I had gotten 2 hammer, 2 food and 1 gold (I think it was a grassland/hill/forest by a river?).

Anyway, I often suffer a lot in the early game, and knowing where to place my first city better could help considerably.

well, the 2 hammers in your city tile occurs when you settle on a plains-hill. Besides that, settling on some other resources can get you hammers or gold bonusses, but these only 1 additional gold or hammer, which is usually a lot less than building a regular improvement on them (for example, settling on gold will give your city centre 1 additional gold (i think), but settling next to the gold and building a mine ontop of it will give you 7 gold and 1 hammer on top of the normal tile). If you're asking what resources spawn on which tiles, i recon someone can make a list, but i'm not sure about all of them.

You get 2/1/1 in the centre anywhere (including desert or tundra tiles and floodplains - the first 2 are good as you're turning rubbish tiles into reasonable ones, though the defence modifier for desert in FfH can make that less clear-cut; the third is definitely bad) except on a plains hill tile, which is indeed 2/2/1. Settling on resources can, as noted above, add to that though, but not by much. It depends rather on the resource - gold, incense(!) and so on you should never settle on top of, but settling on reagents, copper or similar for strategic reasons makes sense, and in the middle of clusters of things like dyes, cotton and so on can be very worthwhile - the yields aren't great anyway, and you secure the resource quicker, get something extra in the city tile and may be able to improve the city's overall value.

There is something to said for starting on a Jungle resource, since founding the city clears the Jungle and gives you access to the resource sooner than having to research Sanitation.

But of course you loose a turn in doing that, so again it's hard to say. Or is 1 turn not important even in the very beginning?
