I noticed this when I had some units camp out next to a station that was being repeatedly attacked by one of Elodie's alien units.
The attacker threw itself at the Station, inflicting @25 points, but suffered about 30 points in return. Next turn, the Station healed 10. The alien unit kept attacking until its hit points got down to less than 20. Then the unit sat there and healed itself back to @50. Likewise the Station -- except that before the unit resumed its attacks, the Station had healed back to 100%. Thereafter, the unit attacked, inflicted about 20-25 points, but lost 35+. Pause to heal, Station to 100%, and unit to about 50%. Over and over and over.
If a unit attacks a Station from an adjacent hex, why doesn't the Station finish it off rather than let it peacefully heal up to make the next attack? It really should be very straightforward: "If you attacked us, we WILL kill you if you are stupid enough to stay just outside our walls." Watching that interplay, it looked like swatting mosquitoes: You can swat them, but there's no point to trying to chase the survivors down. Just wait for one to land and THEN swat it. Over and over and over again.
