So, back when Civ 5 came out, I remember reading all the QQ about Steam and I kind of laughed about it. Steam is great, it lets you put all of your games together in one place, no more fears of losing cd's, games are easy to install on a second computer, etc etc etc.

Well, I'm not laughing any more. On 10/17 I got a message from steam guard telling me to lock my account b/c some guy from the UK was trying to hack into it. I was on a trip without computer access, so I locked the account. I am STILL trying to get them to unlock the account now. Their customer service is literally the worst I've ever experienced in my life. It's not that they're rude, it's just that they're non-existent. I've gotten one (ONE!!) reply in 11 days, and that was 3 days ago. Nothing from them since. I have the same email address that I've always had. I have the same IP address. I sent them a copy of my BNW cd key because that's the only one that I have (I bought all my other steam other games directly from steam). I'm practically at a point where I will just make a new account to play Beyond Earth, but I've had this same steam account for a long time and I don't want to lose all of my old games. Oh, and I can't make a new steam account just for BE and then merge the 2 accounts together once they get their act together and unlock my account because you can't merge steam accounts, even in a frustrating situation like this one. I can't even go to their forums to talk about it because my account is still "locked".

Anybody have a similar experience? Any ideas on ways I could get them to actually respond faster?

It took a lot to turn me off on steam because I really do like the idea of keeping all of my games in one handy spot, but they've managed to do it. I'm now at a point that I'm wondering why firaxis chose steam in the first place.

Ha, I don't know if it was due to my post here and (many) posts on the grim dawn forums, but they finally unlocked the account.

Let this be a warning to you though: don't lock your steam account unless you don't mind losing access to it for 10+ days. I'd rather get a root canal.
