Steam and RAND compatible?

I'm planning to get this game through Steam, after I lost the hard copy of it. But I heard that RAND is currently not up to date, and Steam auto-updates. So I wonder if they can be compatible? If not, I hope RAND can get an update, since it's so much better than Civ 5.

Yep I manage to play RAND on Steam.

You can also turn off auto-upgrade in the game settings within steam.
