Steam error: please help!

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed steam; however,
I get the following error message when trying to download civ 5 demo:

"Steam.exe main exception: to run steam you must first connect to the internet"

Obviously, I am connected to the internet--any help?

Down at the bottom of the steam client you should see the words "NO CONNECTION" if Steam isn't connected to the internet. Sometimes this happens when Steam updates. Have you tried re-starting Steam? Are you logged into your account when you try to download the demo?

Hi guys

thanks--for whatever it's worth, i can download now--
the problem was that I was in a library which is a public network

at home, steam download works fine
