Steam not letting me play as Babylon in multiplayer...

Perhaps this belongs in the "bugs" section, I'm not sure.

I purchased the Direct2Drive version of the game which included the Babylon civ, game soundtrack, making of the game, etc. Thusfar I like the game quite a bit, but this really irritates me.

The game allows me to play Babylon in single-player mode but when I try to play a multi-player game over the internet... they aren't an option to choose from. I was told that they would be at the bottom of the civ list (they aren't), or that it was in abc order by country (which mine is, but Babylon isn't on the list).

I'm rather irritated about this. One of the main reasons I purchased the D2D version was to play as Babylon right away... with my friends. Which I can't do. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or is it just me?

My friend, who purchased the Digital Delux Edition through Steam, is allowed to select and play as Babylon.

I however, am not allowed to play as Babylon multiplayer. I'm pretty furious.

This link apparently gives more information, about Steam disabling Babylon in multiplayer until the first DLC comes out, which wasn't told to anyone, and I think is a complete load of crap.

I played a MP game last night. Both of us have the Deluxe version. No Babylon for us either.

Where does it state that Valve disabled Babylon? Why would Valve even disable any feature in Civilization V?

Jesus... at least pick the correct company to be "furious" at.

It really makes me laugh to read threads like this. Just give them your credit card number and let them bill you until they can fix the problem. If you wait 3 years, they will come out with the version you should be playing now. Good thing we're in a high tech age.

Thanks for your deep insight. Your comment was simply enlightening.

I'm upset that I paid money to play a civ with my friends.. in multiplayer. We (the community) weren't told by Steam, Civ V developers, Valve or anyone else that they would initially be a only single player option. I think that is just reason to be upset.

How come you aren't upset at Microsoft as well?

Don't they make it possible to install Steam and Civilization on your computer? If it weren't for Microsoft, you would not be having these troubles.

Think about it.

Zimbu, you are blowing this intentionally out of proportion, so stop.

I don't think that being angry right now is unjustified. No where did it say that the Babylon civ would initially be a single-player only civ. Thus, many people went under the impression that we would be allowed to play the civ multi-player, which we can't.

Did I say not being angry is the appropriate response?

Be angry at the people that deserve it. Saying "Steam did this" and "Steam did that" when you know... it hasn't... is a little ridiculous.

Hey, you're welcome. Anytime I can be of service.

I was here reading the threads and asking questions quite a while ago, and on this particular issue, I remember the Civ5 people lightly dancing around the questions. I was asking about this at the time (though I never posted about it) and knew it was slight of hand. Sorry you got took. Really I am. I've even stopped laughing. Sadly this forum reminds me of Civ4.

And pay no attention to Monkey Man. His statements are irrelavent.

I guess a lot of people were duped into thinking that you could actually play the civ. I wonder how they will handle the DLC civs in the future. If someone purchases them, will they be only available as single-player as well?
