Steam Problem - offline

Steam refuses to start in offline mode because it says it needs to update, but it can't install the update because I can't connect right now! I'm at work and the firewall won't allow steam, but I was going to play Civ V for 45 minutes on my lunch break and it won't allow me to go offline! What the crap?!

A look at the steam support page (click) tells me, that there's probably no way around this problem .

Have you tried updating steam on another machine that have access to internet? Then you copy&paste that steam to your machine, it may work.
