Steam Review Bombing

In a development that should surprise nobody, Civ 7 is getting review bombed on Steam (Mostly Negative). But I'm having a great time, so who the heck cares? :)
Most negative reviews are along the lines of "the mechanics are great, but you can't get past how bad the UI is". I don't see review bombing, I see bad UI getting called out.

Their tone is the problem. It's not at all thoughtful in most cases. I posted a thread saying I liked the game and I got called a "****" :)

And the UI isn't as extremely bad as some of these folks are claiming. I'm having no trouble playing and enjoying the game. But "UI" seems to be the bludgeon some folks are using.

I'm awaiting the 11th to test this game for myself, but is it really review bombing if the criticism is within the scope of the game's mechanics? If everyone voices a common criticism, the bad reviews seem more of a fault on the game than "review bombing"...

That's your opinion, which you have a right to. But people have the right to leave a bad review if the UI is garbage.

Apparently it's "review bombing" when you disagree with the reviews. 😅

I think it's a bit premature to be posting a review either way, but that's just my opinion. Although early reviews are more likely to be negative, since one of the only justifiable reasons for posting a review this early is if you've run into some kind of show-stopping bugs. My game has already crashed twice, so I can imagine that being the case for some folks.

The vast majority of the negative reviews are not bombing, sure some are, but almost all of them are based around one singular thing (UI), and even the good ones all mention that point. And considering Firaxis has actually been responding to the reviews and stuff, I don’t think they consider it review him in either.

I left a negative review and refunded because, for me, the UI in this game is unacceptable for a fully released product. It would barely be passable for an Early Access indie title, it's not something I'm willing to accept from an AAA priced fully released game.

Review bombing would be a ton of reviews saying, "Denuvo sucks negative review", or "day 1 DLC negative review". Legit reviews about the UI is not bombing.

Nowadays people label as "review bombing" any legitimate and fair negative review for a game they like.

People who bought the game and found issues have the same rights to write a review just like anyone else, reviews aren't a celebration poem, but a personal opinion about the game.

A thread where? The reviews are the reviews, not the awful threads on the largely unmoderated Steam forums, if that's what you mean.

You seem determined to describe these reviews as illegitimate in some way. There is no evidence for that.

The overall reviews are kind of encouraging. 800+ negative reviews but only 20'ish actually refunded the game (as of ~4 am EST). Negative reviewers on-line were mostly playing Civ 7 (so they didn't hate it enough to stop playing). A few actual 'review bombs' but for the most part they just echoed everything we've already heard (ui, map sizes and limitation, etc). The only curious thing is there were quite a few players that had more play time than was possible (released approximate 5 hours ago, but greater than 5 hours of play time). I have to work for a few more hours but if the trend continues that it needs a lot of work but still worth playing, I'll probably have to get off this fence I'm straddling.

The game ended up releasing six hours earlier than was announced.

Re: thread: A negative review about the game is not review bombing. Review bombing means a group of people leaving negative reviews on a game for a reason that has nothing to do with the game.

Also, most people who like the game are probably too busy playing and won't leave a review until later.

It's funny that some folks on the Steam forum are describing what happened as "review bombing," but if you all think I'm misusing the term, I'll defer to you :)

The review bomb excuse is getting old.

There’s always a reason for negative reviews and in this case it has been obvious for months. Firaxis should have seen this coming months ago. Small maps, terrible UI, terrible features, day 1 DLC, early access for a singleplayer game, insanely high price… the list is long.

I guess its something that cant be seen within the echo chamber that Firaxis and some fans has burried themselves in.
